my new years
Worked in 35 C heat because aircon at work didn't wanna work.
Got home cooked tea and had a quiet beer.
Watch Sir Elton John, Countdown, and the Mamma's and the pappa's.
Went to bed
12.30 next door's party kicks into high gear and f**King music blasting waking up my kids
1.10 called cops
1.30 cops been music gets turned up louder.
2.00 Cops come back
2.20 music up even louder kid screaming the house down
3.00 music turned right down kids got to sleep at 3.30
6.30 kids wake up again.
F*CK i hate new years.

Don't tell mrs smac that blokes like you exist, I keep telling her we're all loud, obnoxious and generally offensive on the grog.

God help me if she finds out otherwise.

Assume that if water is in such short supply the use of private swimming pools etc has been banned.

You assume wrong, its political.
You can fill your pool with 500,000 litres of water but washing the car or watering the garden with 2 litres of water is a no no.

In Victoria, I believe you STILL have to buy water to fill a pool from private sources of unpalatable bore water, then treat it. I haven't checked the details because up here in the mountains you would rarely get to use one.

Last time I was in Adelaide I was amazed how much water was being thrown around in the capital of the driest state of the driest continent!

Take your choice,

a) Too cold to go outside at all, everything (including the car) frozen solid, damp, miserable and only about 3 hours of daylight during the day

or

b) Bloody hot, nice Barbie by the pool or the beach, 12 hours sunshine lounging by the sea, and a nice dip; when the heat gets too much

sheesh

Oh, and just to put the icing on the cake, snow is forecast later this week, just to make the conditions more miserable than they already are.

Hiya JohntheClaret Happy New Year. Over a week of 100+ degrees is not much fun either..... in fact I really think it's all relative. My dh and me have just cut short our summer holiday to Port Broughton as not going below 40 c for a week and even the evenings are hot in the high twenties...really sucked cause even with the air condish we were kinda going stir crazy all the family sitting in one room watching DVD's and no one really venturing outside until the sun is close to going down. cant even go fishing cause the coastal winds are high and its not too sun smart to be out on the water for long periods in this heat.... probably have to take a second mortgage to cover the summer cooling bill... (air condish has been on 24/7 solid)... not only that but everyone seems a little more tetchy than usual... lucky for us I spose the heat only lasts say 3-3.5 months here. Bring on Easter break when *cross fingers * the weather should be more bearable and we can get amongst the fish.
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you

Hey there John...thankfully up here they are well prepared for snow and ice...gritters have been out for days and the worst of the roads ie those over the higher passes have gates and usually get shut before anyone needs rescuing. Luckily yesterday the snow missed us...being on the coast we get some slightly weird weather...was bitterly cold but glorious sunshine all day...watched the snow clouds arcing out over the firth and skipping us altogether. Right now though it's sleet so still a chance of snow.

Stay safe
