You know it, i know it, everyone watching knows it so why did Ricky Ponting keep bowling him. FFS anyone who could have at least made the tail play would have been a better option.

Memo to Mitchell Johnson: They are made of wood, there are three of them and the guy with the bat is trying to protect them. Aim there

ROD
gotta be a little pateint with guys like Hogg/Johnson
they are rookies as Test Cricket Bowlers
no bowling attack in this universe can get the Indians out on Sachin Cricket Ground

Just wonder what the story was with Ponting today, didn't seem himself and made some horrid decisions both with field placing and bowling moves, know he spent some time off the field but think we can put it down to not one of his better days, but then again all champions have a day off now and again

Johnson may well become a fine bowler. Currently he just can't cut it against good batting. Your pet hate is Clark not getting a shot at the tail. Well today he was denied for so long because Ponting persisted with Johnson. Mitch just kept bowling a metre wide of off stump all day. He needs to be a lot smarter and a lot more consistent to be a threat in Test cricket. Today he bowled absolute poo and you know it.

As for Hogg he is playing because there is no-one better not because he is a good Test bowler. He is a very good one day bowler but Test match cricket is a very different game.

Agreed RR, Johnson is not that far off the mark, about 6 inches closer to the off stump and he will be right, dont know what they call the bowling chart like the batsmans wagon wheel but when they showed it , there was hardly a ball on the stumps, fair enough I think there was 3 down the leg side but all the rest outside the off stump and by a long way. I think he has the goods but just needs to straighten up a tad. Clark had a day off, he has done nothing wrong since he came into the side and will continue to get wickets, perhaps he was down a bit today cause he got a blob yesterday, as for Hogg, well it just goes to show we have problems at the minute re spinners, but I give him credit, he never gives up trying things and he may one day actually get a bag of wickets, least whilst he is in the side gives us a bit more batting depth than usual

why should we be patient with Johnson in the test team when we have a strike bowler like Tait missing out

Johnson needs more development at State level and International one day level before graduating to the test stage

Agree with the vibe of recent posts.

On today's effort, time for Johnson to have a break and bring in Tait for Perth. And even tho I give Hogg a hard time I think we need a spinner in the team, even in Perth.

Mitchell only played against the Lankans due to Tait's injury.

Tait's fit get him back in there especially for PERTH.

As for Hogg, we have no one else which is a sad state of affairs so can't
see Aus dropping him.

Tait will probably play in perth, As for Hogg, well he does tend to struggle against the right handers and we dont really have anyone to replace him with. The spinners that were supposed top be coming through are bowling plenty of crap at the moment.

I'm glad your not his bowling coach Rod- shouldn't the "area" they bowl to be just outside off, with the ball theororetically going just wide & above off-stump?

Not when 10 and 11 are at the crease.

It all depends on who you are bowling to though but bowling as wide of off peg as consistently as Johnson does is not going to get too many wickets particularly as he doesn't swing the ball.

bowling at the crease does not achieve this. bowling wide is not bowling "just outside off"

He's copped some pretty fair balls though. The one in Melbourne from Khan was unplayable and the ball today was also a ripper. Pretty unlucky i reckon.

I can't believe some people want Clark out of the team!! I was also amazed that Johnson bowled so many overs while Clark was standing around doing nothing. He is a superb bowler who should be given more opportunities. He takes wickets even though he is not that fast, he bowls in the right spot all the time.

Johnson is a good bowler and has a future ahead of him but it's time to bring Tait in for the next Test.. it has to happen at the WACA.
