Glenelg + Grima = A Contender?

Postby Rik E Boy » Mon Jan 07, 2008 10:25 am

I reckon the Yabs have got a good get with the former Geelong VFL forward Todd Grima. Grima kicked 50 snags in the magoos for Geelong and if he can do the same thing for the Tigers (er..that would be in the league side) then I reckon they can grab the double chance. Grima was a bit stiff to be delisted by the Cats in my view and is a strong grab and an accurate kick. Maybe if Nate hadn't jumped ship Todd would still be a Cat but our loss might just prove to be Glenelg's gain.

Haven't seen Grima play so can't comment on him, but was a wrap for Jeff Smith and they'll lose a bit with Mitchell going so he'll have to be pretty good to compensate.

I would have thought Duldig was the wildcard .. Have seen him play some big games over the years, but perhaps too infrequently for the Bays?

Fortunately for the Bays they have a good enough list and surely some self belief after last season that I would have had them in the 5 anyway ... Still think all clubs have bit to do to catch the Dogs ... Again.

It is funny you say that Duldig has played some big games because he is a big man not fit enough to play consistent league footy same basket as Nick Prokopec talented but too fat.

very very hard to argue that

plus the kicking for goal is diabolical at best

he can kick goals from the boundary line but not straight in front

smith is a big loss even though last season wasnt his most consistent after being thrown down back and then up forward - he didnt know what was going ion :?

Without seeing him play its hard to say if he will make a difference or not. He may be a very good footballer but, i think the whole side will need to improve again on last year because every side knows that the bays are going to be a very tough team to play this year.

One player does not make a big difference in winning and losing, i think it will come down to how he blends in with the rest of the team.

They are premiership contenders just ask the players and coaching staff down their. (how someone at glenelg fc knows what a premiership contender looks like or what references they used would be interesting)

With a bit of improvement from the young kids like Fosdike Mcgregor and Holmes the bays could certainly replace North as Centrals challengers in the Gf this year.
Centrals 16.11 107 North 5.12 42 the dynasty continues .

duldigs fitness was an issue & that is why he played in the two's for a lot of last season but i can tell you he is lean & looks fitter than he has ever before

No, you are correct. The other 8 teams may as well not bother in 2008.

Wit Nabblett now retired will the Catters be able to pick up another player as Melbourne did when Troy Broadbridge was killed in Phi Phi Island? As maybe grima may still hold a life line.

No, they have to wear it, and probably upgrade a rookie. The Broadbridge incident was compleyely different and the AFL had to make special dispensation for Shannon Motlop to join the Demons list. Lets hope it never has to happen again in such tragic circumstances.

I don't see Grima on his own as our savior, but the team remaining from 2007, plus our new guys as a whole - I'm very excited.

Glenelg -- Premiership contender ???? It must be the silly season !!!!!!

Grima may or may not be as good as his brother, but he would need to have strong shoulders to carry them over the line.
