I would have thought Rick would be looking to either coach the state side himself (a little early in his career, IMO) or focus entirely on his coaching role with Sturt.

A selectors role, when coaching a SANFL side would be something different, but usually selectors are able to get to games and observe players in contention for a spot in the side, something a league coach would find difficult.

Who else is on the panel ???

As a sturt supporter I am not fussed that our league coach is a SANFL state selector if he still is a selector that is !!!
It is what it is !!!

Probably just a time issue if anything, Ricks the sort of guy who could handle the job without any bias showed towards the team he coaches.

If he was a selector, you'd think that he won't select any Sturt players to avoid risking injury to any of his players ;)

Clarkson picked 11 Centrals players a few years ago didn't he?

More likely to give the nod to someone you know as opposed to someone you see every couple of months, IMO.

Not bias, just picking the players you know. It's happened plenty of times in the past, just part of the way humans act.

It doesnt really matter who is a State selector because take my word on this, the State coach will only pick the players HE wants. Thats not to say the advice wont be taken on board but when it comes to the crunch, the players will be the ones he wants.
