Boozehound are you serious about the payment to Polkinghorne. I thought he ws just an average, honest a1 footballer and not worth anything like that. Did he ever play League or State Amateurs?

I'll be hitting him up for more than that, maybe a few trips to the strippers or 444 Prospect Rd.

And Footynut knows quite well that Polky was aproached by Broadview last week. I can't believe he has the nerve to accuse us of wrecking football by paying players too much!

Have heard some crazy amounts for amateur footy!!

Read on another thread that Travis White is on $450 per game at Athelstone...

That would have to make him the best paid player in Div 2?????

I wouldn't believe that jayne.
I would believe it, if it was Salis Nth or Gepps Cross!!

Believe it NO MERCY, he wasn't getting that much @ Salisbury North though...

Excuse my ignorance but what is 'Polky's' full name? & can someone briefly go through his football background... $5k and $450 means he should have played a stack of SANFL or beyond I would have thought??

My question is how do lower div or less affluent clubs compete when there are so many $$ flying around. Where has loyalty and playing for the jumper gone?

Unfortunately Scorpion there are far to many playing for $$$ only.
Alot of them wouldn't know the meaning of the word LOYALTY.
I do believe in paying money, but not eccessive over the top payements.
Every club needs key position players, yet non of these come cheap.
Even spread of coin to all players is the way to go & i think most of those players would understand the clubs need to pay $150-$200 for a good ruckman & key fwd & backman, if the rest take $40-$50 you can build a good side around that.Pays for more than a few beers after a game :D :D
The chances of that these days is more or less buckleys & it seems like only the rich clubs are going to survive which is sad.
We can't all have pokies like the Salis Nths, Gaza's & Gepps X & i don't think enough is done to ensure the salary cap is not broken by these richer clubs. Its there for a reason & the Amatuer League don't do enough to keep clubs honest.

Don't kid yourself that it's only clubs with pokies that exceed the salary cap. There are plenty who find ways to pay 'over the top' of $30K + $10K for all coaches. if a club has A,B & C grade & the top man wants 10K, Reserves coach $3K and some more for the C grade, how's the $10K looking? Shot to pieces!
I reckon there might be a few Div 1 & 2 coaches on $10K or more and it's probably tax free $$$$'s to boot, so the $10K is worth $14 - $15K in real terms

Was i talking about coaches?
Coaches shouldn't be included in the salary cap anyway.

Isn't it funny how everyone on here knows every player extremely well.

Not sure if you guys have the right Polky. Ours played about 50 games for the Western Bulldogs in the mid nineties.

How else do you think he command such money?
