double headers?

sort of continuing the thread on double headers, ive heard a few people say they were disappointed with the 4000 crowd in attendance. 4000 werent there all at once but thats the number that passed through the gates.

why wouldnt the SANFL play a game on Good Friday, the NRL do it.

Why not play the double header tomorrow on the sunday, i mean today they were in direct competition with Oakbank to which i know a few people that went to Oakbank rather then the footy.

The crowd was 4,627. I was hoping for over 5,000, but I hope the SANFL does not pull the plug on these fixtures because of the disappointing crowd. Fixture them, then market the bollocks off them!

The crowd today was pathetic. If the games were seperate they would have got more than 2200 to each. Double headers wont work if all the supporters from the first game go home after their match and the supporters for the second game turn up in the 4th quarter of the first game.

Yeah, I tend to agree. At lot of people enjoy watching the last quarter of their Reserves before settling into watching their League teams play. I would think if today's games were played at Norwood and Elizabeth Ovals they would have pulled a lot more than 4,000 people. Having said that, I also think a lot of people who would have normally attended would have gone away over the Easter break. I also think a lot of people like to see their footy finish around 4.45pm so they can be home in time for dinner and then go out for the evening.

Very nice pic Wide Receiver. I have never been to a match where Adelaide Oval looks like that! Things change alot in five years. Last time I was in Adelaide they had the new stands up but there was no sport on at the time, I wanted to check it out but I couldn't even get into the ground, it was all locked up for some reason. I think it looks all right, a big improvement on the "temporary" stand that seemed to have sat on that wing for about ten years. What's the general feeling of people in SA about Adelaide Oval's new look?

The Chappell stands add to the character of the ground, they certainly don't detract from it. But I'd prefer that "corporate stand" thing wasn't there.

I like the Clem Hill Stand. Dont like the Chappell Stands. The seats look stupid, the concete turns as slippery as ice as soon as it gets wet, and the roof should be the same colour as the other stands.

I figure the Chappell Stands are the ones in front of the Vic Richardson gates, just guessing that
because he is the grandfather of the Chappell brothers.

Well I went yesterday and went early saw both games .The main reason I went early was to get a seat before the hordes from Elizabeth took all the best spots ,well I was wrong wasnt I ,walked in when the girls started dancing hardly a soul there .
I havent been a fan of double headers still not and at easter time went past at least two other shows with large crowds ,that would not have helped the SANFL!!

The Chappell Stands are great. They were designed in mind to keep the 'carnival' style atmosphere of the ground in tact, and I think they have done a good job. They also have good accoustic properties - when I sat in front of them for a quarter during the second match, the fans definitely made quite a roar!

I don't like the Clem Hill stand, but i'm glad it's small enough to preserve the view of the city skyline.

Great photo!!! A tad big. Anyone got a photo of second game as would be interested in the crowd numbers on the hill then. Looked very small from what I saw of on the TV when went to the CAthedral.

Love the idea of the double headers, and really hope they get more publicity with them - but as for Good Friday games. IMHO - no. Some days are sacred. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but one day without football doesn't do any harm.

We don't have footy from October to February, that's enough sacred days IMHO.

something for the SANFL to think about though. i like many of the louts walked over to where the boys walked off on saturday. thinking they were walking off through the members entrance we stood as close as we could. the players (both teams) actually walked through us to get back to their rooms. no security were present. an off the cuff comment that could have been taken either way could have provoked something ugly. just imagine if it was a dogs, sturt, or dogs port game...
