50th anniversary of the Lego brick today!

What great memories....

Used to love that stuff.

Hated stepping on it.

One of the best toys a kid can have...make them use their imagination. Having a 6 yo godson I still get to play and still love the stuff...and if Lego are reading this he much prefers the basic bricks etc to the themed kits 'cos he can make different stuff with it' :D

Looking forward to moving up to Mecano soon as well.

Definitely ley-go.

One drunk night on campus, we had a furious argument about this pronounciation.

(Yep, we had nothing better to do.)

So we fired off an email to Lego head office seeking clarification.

They emailed back to confirm it was Ley-go.

The Leg-o majority still refuse to concede.

I always assumed it was one of those SA peculiarities that we go for the latter. Like we say Bone-o rather than Bonn-o.
I'm pretty sure we're wrong on both fronts but I'm happy to maintain our recalcitrance. Is that a word?

Bah. We Adelaidians are the only Aussies who can pronounce words like darnsing (sic) and charnses (sic) correctly.

And recalcitrance is indeed a word - just ask Paul Keating

PS - surprised you haven't made an appearance on the massive Aussie '80s lyrics quiz yet zipper...

50% of my childhood fights with my older brother started over lego (the other 50% was backyard tennis/cricket/footy), yet I still love the stuff.

No doubt someone will google it, there is a set of animated bible stories created using lego on the net somewhere, very clever.
