probably more "poached" as you put it from the GFFL to the PFFL this year - mind you all of those going back are probably orginally from Pt Lincoln

Just looking at first round, my thoughts are no game at ravendale why not move the sunday game which will be the match of the round to Ravendale Saturday or even Friday night. Surely the crowds from the boston trial indicate it will be supported strongly. All grades could start later. I guess because rangers home game gate takings etc are as normal for them and canteen.

I completly agree with you eski. what a perfect way to start off the new season with the first game for points, under the new ravendale lights. It has been proven that it will get a crowd!!!

WhiteTips - I say poached, not referring to those that just leave.
And as for a night game at Ravendale, I have been involved in night footy and it's great. Atmosphere is just that bit better, especially with game of the round. Just something different.

Ravendale is even further away from being ready for a game of football than what i am. Witches hats on the wing covering up holes might be ok for a trial but wouldn't work too well in a real game.

Bostons

Postby OldCooper » Tue Apr 18, 2006 10:31 pm

Four tips for the Bostons footy club on my behalf..
1) Find a decent coach that will earn the respect from all the players and supporters (which has already happened)
2) Find some new decent recruits
3) Select a respectable leadership team that will take charge of all on and off-field problems
4) Clear out some of the un-wanted (skum bag) people involved with the club and get some of the old back involved, eg. Bob Edmonds, Reg Potts, Peter Watherston, Gary Turnbull, Ray "Patch" Waterston ect.. some of the greater past players that used too be involved!!

It's a tough one for a club that may have on and off field problems. And how do you tell certain people that you don't want them at your club?
Getting a coach with a good rep is a positive for sure. And I agree that choosing a leadership group that takes control on and off field is the way to go. And keep talented juniors in the mix with positive older players. Clubs that have done this then build a great social environment that draws people, not turns them away.

Merge the leagues, what if Peckers really are terrible this year???? Could be only 4 competitive teams with Souths tipped by Grub (trustworthy?) to not have a lot up their sleave. I hope I'm wrong, but it could be bring on the King George......

When I suggested that last year to a couple of mates I was told it wasn't a good idea. Maybe travelling times would be a real pain? But I think with the small population of PL, it is hard to maintain 6 competitive teams. I've been part of another league that would basically have just 1 or 2 teams pooling from a similar sized community.

Longest would possibly be Lock if they stayed in the merged competition (I'd push them North). It's the netball thing that GF don't want to lose, but how long can they continue with their comp the way it is. EU are in serious trouble, no kids in the area to come through, PL recruits go and they are gone. Yeelanna have good 15-17 year olds but will they be staying? No room on the farms for all the kids anymore!! Can see Ramblers winning 15 from the next 20 GF's up there with Tumby filling the rest. Act now powers that be.....

i dont think travelling times would be a big issue justquietly, the lincoln clubs would still train in lincoln so the only trip they would have to do is maybe 2 out of every 5 games, the furtherest been lock which is only once a year, all the other majority country games would be played at tumby cummins and ungarra, i like the idea wcp, would be the best opportunity for some of us to come back into the lincoln league, without having to leave our club!

Hey, I thought it was a good idea when I first got to Lincoln. I couldn't believe there were 2 leagues. I actually think it could be good bonding going up every few weeks in a mini bus with the squad, staying for a beer at their club/pub and then coming back into town together.
merging leagues is one thing, but I don't think that really does a whole lot for player numbers, if you're still drawing on your same area. Some clubs would have to merge. Have a 10 or so team comp.
