SJABC funny you should say that!

I was very confused by his name actually, seemed to pop up after City knocked off United so I thought maybe a Man City fan with a strange name... then thought maybe he's a Reading fan.. now I see he's a Sunderland man.

For the record, I think Sunderland will stay up. They have a decent fighting spirit and their gaffer is a tough nut who will inspire them over the line, also they have a knack of beating teams around them which always helps.

Get in!!!
Cracking turnaround!

On a side note, news tonight is that Kanu from Portsmouth may be heading down under in Summer to join proposed new A-League side Gold Coast Galaxy. That would be a massive, massive coup for the A League.

He's 31 and on the last year of his contract. Plus with Defoe, Utaka and seemingly that waste of space Nugent ahead of him in the pecking order at Pompey, I guess the chance to play regular football and be the best player in the comp in Aus seems like a good option.

The report said he wants to move to Australia, so this was a good option to achieve that.

I like it!

Just for the record, how many Centrals + Sunderland fans are there on this board? Seems like if you support one, the other goes hand in hand?

The Sunderland supporters club in Adelaide used to be the best organised and one of the largest in town before the Internet took off and made such clubs a wee bit irrelevant. Used to meet at the Union Hotel before it got revamped. Used to be great fun on Tuesday nights.

Alot of them were Doggies fans, I also know a fair few Sunderland fans from there who also follow Port, but I've never understood how a Mackem can follow a club who play in Black and White and are called the Magpies!!.

The beautiful weather on The Gold Coast may also help sway Kanu's decision! ;)

Agree about a Mackem following a Magpie club, very strange pairing indeed!

Re: FA CUP Results Sat 16th Feb

Postby johntheclaret » Sun Feb 17, 2008 3:47 am

Liverpool 1 - 2 Barnsley    Liverpool 1 - 2 Barnsley
Howard scores winner for the Tykes 2 and a half minutes into injury time.
Should say it is a shock really. Pool struggled against Luton, and let two in against Havant & Waterlooville before hitting 3 in the 2nd half.
Yet again a prem manager puts out a weakend side and pays the penalty. Torres didn't even make the bench and Gerrard didn't come on until mid way through the 2nd half.

Covenrty 0 - 5 WBA.
West Brom have scored nine goals in 2 games at the Ricoh Arena. Coventry down to 10 men but to be honest, it made little different. They were bereft of ideas, confidence or fight. How much are they rueing the sacking of Dowie now.

Cardiff 2 - 0 Wolves
A great win by the bluebirds. Wolves just didn't look like getting anything out of this one. Go and have a good beer in celebration RM.

Bristol R 1 - 0 Soton
Another underdog does the business. League 1 club Rovers makes it through to the last eight for the 1st time in 32 years.

Chelski 3 - 1 Huddersfield
Chelski make sure they didn't make the same mistake as Pool. Clinical and workmanlike is probably the best way to describe Chelski's performance. Huddersfield tried their best and the 3rd goal came when Huddersfiled were throwing everything forward looking for an equaliser.

Just about to start, Man U v Arsenal. Hope it's a great game with plenty of passion. This fixture usually throws up a bit of fire between the two. No Ronaldo, No Scholes, No Giggs, No Adebayor, as both managers decide that the FA cup means sweet FA.

Whilst this is probably one of the most open cup comps in recent years, I wouldn't bet against a Chelski v Arsenal or Chelski v Man U providing they don't draw each other in later rounds. Portsmouth could be a good outside bet. It is clear that the CL and EPL Title are the key objectives of all Man U, Chelski and Arsenal whereas the cup could be a route into Europe next year.

Other Results CCC

Leicester 4 - 0 Norwich.
Canaries suffer 1st defeat in 13 games asthe Foxes turn it on. Holloway must be a very relieved man tonight as they put some daylight between themselves and PNE. BPBRB you have been waiting a long time for a result like this.

Hull 1 - 1 Colchester (Who).
The U's pick up their 2nd away point on the trot

Charlton 2 v 2 Watford.
Hornats must be happier with a point gained after Bristol City's win last night. After Andy Grays disgraceful departure from the Clarets to the Charleton's any points dropped by them will make me smile.

Ipswich 2 - 1 Blackpool
Seasiders scored a late winner to make it a bit more interesting for the last couple of minutes. Dickov scored in a bizarre offside no offside decision that just goes to show the officials either don't understand the law or are just plain inept. Ipswich defender heads back to the keeper but the ball wasshort and Dickov nipped in, rounded the keeper and scored but the linesman flagged for offside. After some debate the common sense prevailed and the ref let the goal stand, bearing in mind that in the ball comes off the defender, you can't be offside.

Latest
Man U 1 - 0 Arsenal

Rooney after 15 minutes.

Man U 2 - 0 Arsenal

Fletcher after 19 minutes.

All one way traffic atm

Man U 3 - 0 Arsenal

Nani after 38 minutes.

Game over. (Fuguratively speaking)

Half Time
Man U 3 - 0 Arsenal

Oh to be a fly on the Gunners dressing room wall

No change in the 2nd half. All the Red Deveils.

Eboue sent off 51 mins

2nd half a bit more juicy, 2 yellows and a Red inside 8 mins

still Man U 3 - 0 Gunners

Man U 4 - 0 Arsenal

Fletcher 71 mins.

Adebayor booked for diving

Handbags between Gallas and Nani

Final Score

Man U 4 - 0 Arsenal

United destroyed the Gunners, or should I say Gummers as Arsenal's pay is best described as toothless. United played harder, wanted it more and attacked the ball all over the pitch. Arsenal played like they were in a training match, whereas United took it seriously. Nani and Rooney were outstanding and it wouldn't be suprising to think that Man U were cleansing the Derby day defeat of last week, out of their system.

Good summaries there JTC.

The last sentence above shows why Rafa's decision to go in with a weakened side was madness at this stage of the comp. They can't win the league. On current form, they can't win the Champs League. That left the FA Cup as their best realistic chance of silverware this year as Man U and Le Arse aren't taking this one as seriously as others. I think Chelski is still pretty keen on lifting the FA Cup given they're a game further behind the Gunners in the league than Manure.

The no 1 thing Rafa needs out of this season is to qualify for the CL next season. The FA cup was possibly their best route as the Reds form at home has been ordinary at best and piss poor on the road (their form over the last 5 matches was 15th or 16th in the league) meaning the all important 4th spot is far from certain. And lets face it, a club like Liverpool is not interesting in prancing around in the Mickey Mouse Europe!!!

Man U 3-0 up now against the Goons. Nani celebrating with a cracking somersault.

Ohhhhhhhh how I wish I was going to Wemb-er-ley!!!
I'll be there in Spirit and if we get up, the Yids will be able to hear me singing from my lounge room.

I'm prepared to pay up to 200 quid for a ticket and am told that I could get lucky outside the ground, but I'm not game enough in case I miss even 1 second of action.

Touts have tickets from 375 which I just can't justify unfortunately.

Supposedly there are 30,000 tickets handed out to corporates and the other 90 League clubs. So there's got to be tickets out there somewhere. Any at Turf Moore mate?

If I can't get lucky before Sunday, I have 6 tickets for the Spurs v Chelski game at the Lane on March 19, so will be able to either gloat or see revenge over ze Russians!!

JTC I had a few beers while following the game last night, fantastic result! I cheered when the scores popped up during the Liverpool vs Barnsley result. It's been an amazing turnaround for the Bluebirds this season, hopefully we can get our playoff charge back on track after this effort.
