Does anybody care? I'm a Test traditionalist and I tried a few years ago but I just can't get interested.

- voting system too hard to understand.
- too small a pool of players who can actually win.
- no history to the award.

Ch 9 seems to have read the wind and it's been bumped back to 10.30 here in Melbourne, after being live at 7.30 a few years back, then to 8.30, then to 9.30. Surely not long for free to air coverage at this rate.

Unfortunately I agree Rog. Seems like it was introduced to build on cricket's increased popularity in the late 90's.

Feels more like a club's B&F count than a Brownlow/Magarey count.

Voting - Test votes are weighted 5 times more than ODIs (6 tests are voted on, 30 ODIs)
Players - only 11 in any Australian side at any given time, that is the nature of the game!
History - you have to start somewhere - it has been around for 7 or 8 years now though.

They're trying to make it like the Brownlow but people just dont care (well at least i dont anyway). No one would really remember who won it any given year, and yeah also the pool of players is too small.

It would be ok it was held discreetly like a District Competition medal (eg Bradman Medal), but shouldn't be televised.

I think it's a good night to have and always enjoy watching it. The Hall of Fame inductions are the highlight, but also a chance to review the year that's just gone - given cricket doesn't just have the one season like most sports. There is also usually a special moment eg. Gilchrist's speech tonight or the Hookesy tribute a few years ago that make the show worth watching. I think being an Allan Border medalist would be pretty high on the list of things accomplished during a player's career - particularly from an individual viewpoint and given cricket is very much an "individual team sport".

You've got the test and the medal votes wrong way round.
Plus the media votes on it as well.

I'd forgotten about that too. You are right about the relevance of the comp. All it is is a way to make money and the ODI's are rapidly being replaced by even more meaningless rubbish in 20/20.
