If you go to the docks of some of the bigger boats in the fleets (Pt Mac, Pt Lincoln) they have steamers on board and sell cooked crays direct to the public.

Yes, I went there a year or so ago so still going. Brilliant looking church - I wasn't expecting something like that when we turned off the main road...

Flinders Ranges is probably the most magnificent tourism spot in SA IMO. If you go there go to the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna for the Aussiest Aussie menu I've ever seen. I had a Feral mixed grill consisting of Emu, Kangaroo and Camel - it's all good!

No shit? Amazing what we take for granted. Of course I can't get them in my neck of the woods, I never even thought to try to find them, but I always assumed that a double cut roll would be something that you'd be able to find anywhere in the western world.
My mouth is watering right now, jus thinking about them.

Fritz? I was overseas for 4 years before I discovered that Fritz is the same stuff as Polonia sausage, you f****n beauty! It scares the crap out of my wife who dreads to think about what it is made out of, I usually have one hidden at the back of the fridge that I cut a chunk out of and smother in sauce when she's not about, so I don't have to listen to the lecture on mystery meats and mystery chemicals.

JAS, you haven't acknowledged Menz Fruchocs in your list of SA foods yet. I like them so much I brought a couple of packs back with me after my last trip back home.

I also like the yoghurt bars or whatever they are called, especially the apricot flavour. But they may be an Australia wide thing, I am not sure.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I'll go you one bettter- a Murray Bridge icon.
In high school, we used to have savoury slices on a flat roll with sauce, or chicken drummies on a flat roll (never liked sauce on the CD's).
I believe the Savoury slice is a Murray Bridge icon- never heard of anywhere else in SA you could get one.
Go to the Bakery next to the swimming pool (used to be Pearce's Bakery at one stage), & you can grab one there.
Right, that's it, off of to Murray Bridge this minute to get one...

Then pink then brown.

Delighted to hear that Wedgie prefers the pink to the brown....never suspected anything else.

Damn you beat me to it - Giant Twins, mmmmm...

Bordertown bakery pies - their claim to fame is that Ernie Sigley buys them in bulk. Yum.

Balfours sausage rolls (small).

Nippy's Tangy Lemon.

Loys soft drinks.

Yiros (not to be confused with the eastern states 'kebab')

Spiders (Woodies + Golden North = yum)

 :D Wow guys thanks for the fantastic response. Will spend a very happy day working through the suggestions and updating my list.

SJABC thanks for the link...had a quick peek and looks great.

FC no worries about putting on 10kg...can always loose it again and if it's for a good cause then who cares

Good to hear you eat Emu too  I've tried Ostrich but it was Tartare (raw) so to be honest it didn't really taste of anything. Oh yeh, thanks Hazbeen I adore pheasant...didn't even know you had them #-o shows what I know.

Definitely want to try some fish especially types you wouldn't find here. Had shark (hammerhead), tuna and wahoo freshly caught and loved it so have high hopes for your local catch. Only downside is, sorry Troy, I'm not really a lover of shellfish...scallops are ok but I've never been able to eat oysters etc...it's the texture I don't like...yeh I know big wuss

Checked on the Boost Juice. Yep they are in the UK but only as far north as Manchester...hopefully it will spread further.

Very, very, very happy that ice cream gets a mention...probably my biggest weakness  That and cheese...but not together

Can see some interesting headlines in store when I become the first person arrested at Heathrow for attempting to smuggle Frog Cakes back into the country

Definitley want to try a few different wines from the region although I have to confess that the really good stuff is pretty much wasted on me. Although I gave up about 3 years ago, after nearly 25 years of smoking the taste buds are shot when it comes to telling the difference between a decent wine and a great wine.

Thanks also for suggesting some places to eat as well...I can try but woman cannot live on snacks alone

Thanks again and keep the ideas coming*, all the guide books in the world can't beat local knowledge.

Regards
JAS

Nice one grant...wouldn't have a problem with trying to catch my own dinner. Not a great lover of boats and I do the girlie squealing thing if the bait is worms or maggots but I have successfully been fly-fishing for brown trout and spinning for pollock...however success was more likely due to the stupidity of the fish than my skill with rod and line. Oh yeh and the idea of sitting on a river bank staring at a fishing float for hours is only beaten in the boredom stakes by the thought of spending a holiday lying on a beach for days on end

Add fishing to list of possible things to do :D

Is the Red Ochre Grill still around?

Haha...that's what they all say.
To be honest I really don't think I could eat anything that is or is likely to become an insect or similar. I'm sure it's probably delicious and yes I'm a whimp but then the grandparents could never get me to eat brains, tripe or bone marrow either.
