I was involved at Gepps Cross and remember Ash MacDonald getting dropped for the Grand Final. He did top score in the semi-final - we didn't make many and he was one of a couple who made 20something - it was a discussion point well after the event so I do remember it. I don't think either Danny Perkins or Ash had big seasons and there really wasn't much between them in selection for the gf. Luke went for Danny and he can point to the premiership and say he was right but I am sure it would have been the same result if Ash had played. Danny had made it quite clear it was his last game, Ash was vice captain, on the committee and a worker for the club. They were great blokes and in the end we lost both. Danny retired and Ash walked out and hasn't been back - and no-one blamed him. I understand he has been playing in the Hills. Luke might think it was the right decision but for the Gepps Cross Cricket Club it was wrong!

Coaches gotta make hard choices Monte and from what I have heard of it from the Kilburn and Gepps lads is that all 4 selectors picking the team dropped McDonald, so would not blame all on one guy. They got flag and thats all that matters i reckon. If he got flag he was wrong and if didnt get flag was wrong - was in cant win spot. 4 guys drop him and one the coach gets it in the neck. Bit like Sheedy dropping Pickett from GF after playing every game for year. Cant win can you. A Flag is a Flag is a Flag

Spot on Booney was Kickett. Dont know what you are supposed to do actually other than win a GF and the guy still gets bagged. The fact he was around the club and on the committee and a worker meant nothing in the end. The selectors picked the best side that they thought possible. Reckon this is the first time I have heard a coach getting slammed for winning a Flag. To use a comment like it "was not good for the Gepps Cross Cricket Club", is silly because they won a Flag. What more do you want.

Missed my point. Sure we won but there was no real justification in making the decision. Yep 4 selectors but I think one influenced the others. Hey - we won and that was great but there is such a thing as ethics in this world and 95% of the people at Gepps Cross didn't agree with the decision. Always happy to win premierships but sad to lose the bloke!

Always sad to lose blokes but the Premiership justifies the means and ends. Got nothing to do with want the people at Gepps or any other club want in a team or the team picked in a Grand Final. Comes down to the selectors who picked the best side as they saw it. You "think" one bloke had an influence, does not wash well - only guess work from you and slagging the Premiership Coach on guess work. Very odd. A Flag and still not happy Monte - you wouldnt be macdonalds would you

To win the flag is obviously the aim all season - BUT AT WHAT COST???

For a club to treat their Vice Captain - who DID top score in the semi - like that is bulls**t!!!! I know plenty of guys who wouldn't hesitate in moving clubs if they were treated the same!!!

Yep - I'm Ronald McDonald and own the hamburger chain!

You're having a go at me for questioning one decision our coach made? I've hardly nailed the guy. Didn't you have a fair crack at him before I got involved!

And I played at Gepps Cross with Danny Perkins, who took the vacant spot, and thought he was one of the best coaches - if not the best!
