The fourteen deadly sins

Postby Pseudo » Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:07 pm

The seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger, envy, and pride. I can easily commit each of these mortal vices in any given day. And frequently do.

Now those spoilsports at the Vatican have made it harder by adding another seven sins to the list:
- polluting
- genetic engineering
- being obscenely rich
- drug dealing
- abortion
- pedophilia
- causing social injustice,
source: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 62,00.html

How the hell am I supposed to commit genetic engineering? Also the likelihood of me becoming obscenely rich is only slightly less remote than the chance of me undergoing an abortion. With the water restrictions I'd find it difficult to grow a dope plant in the backyard. I couldn't commit social injustice on a large scale unless I got myself elected to parliament, and nobody would be able to fiddle more kids than the Catholic church itself has done over the years, ironically.

That leaves only pollution. I guess I could toss an Iced Coffee carton out of the car window on the way home tonight.

On the plus side, the movie Se7en is long overdue for a sequel... Bring on Fourteen!

The obscenely rich one is quite funny, seeing the Catholic church is one of the richest organisations in the world.

Im guessing it means the Paradise Church will have to close now, as with their obscene wealth, they are a sin.

We dont need 14 sins, just one. Religion.

"Causing social injustice"

I would have thought declaring abortion a sin when there is so much poverty and sickness worlwide caused by overpopulation would be "causing social injustice". Ah, the hypocrosy of the Catholic Church knows no bounds

It is an interesting one.
I read a theory in the book "Freakonomics": after spiralling crime rates appeared to be heading out of control in the U.S in the mid 90's, experts, almost to a man, predicted an even worse future. There was nothing that could be done, or so they thought.
Suddenly crime rates levelled off, and began to fall. Why? The same experts had many theories but none of them could agree.
The author of "Freakonomics" points to the profile of the average lawbreaker; underprivelidged, unstable home life, begins lawbreaking in his teens and generally escalates from there. He then considers the landmark court case in 1974 (I think) which made abortion legal.
That generation of unborn babies (commencing from 1974) would have been entering their teens about the early to mid-90's. Those unborn babies were spared a world where the majority of them would have been underprivelidged, raised by one parent and ... hey this sounds just like that average lawbreaker's profile, hey?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

The new deadly sins that may lead to eternal damnation are polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice, The Times newspaper has reported.

I'm not fussed about people who are foot fetishists - Pes Pedis [Latin] foot.
But I do object to Paedophiles - Paed- [Greek] child.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

I think you'll find that's a sin too

Just when it looked like 'God's Rottweiler' was starting to see sense by stopping the fast-tracking of saints they come up with this carp

Pseudo...you could do 'two for one' there. Having an abortion would probably make you obscenely wealthy

Coming from an Irish 'Mick' background...
You can see the hypocrisy in ALL the 'Deadly Sins' considering the Church in Rome!
That's why my clan haven't given a rat's clacka about Catholicism for generations!
Thou shalt not acquire wealth?
Thou shalt not fiddle with little kids?
Pope John Paul II was a reactionary throwback piece of crap as well!
Ain't right to speak ill of the dead but facts are facts!

If the vatican were serious they'd include barracking for Glenelg and Sturt too or is that included under causing social injustice? ;)

IIRC he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith until he got made pope...that's what used to be lovingly called the Inquisition.
