On the arsey bet thing Ecky, if you check the Spring Racing Comp on page 7 & backward The Wonder Elephant had an enormous lead early on (no arse about it though)& was rounded up in the final 3 weeks so with a bit of time everyones a show.

Point taken, G!

But why not learn something at the same time as having fun - and are we really all gambling experts? If we were, we would all be retired and living off our profits, wouldn't we? :)

But I think it all depends on "how big your arse is". :) If it is big enough, the comp could still be over no matter what happens.

Prizes -
1st Prize: $100- Free Bet donated by http://www.sportsbet.com.au
2nd Prize: $75- Voucher from Brad at http://www.team-bundy.com

Rules
Some small changes from last year. This year you will still have 3 units per week to bet with however you can use them over 3 bets, not 2. You can use them all in 1 bet of 3 Units or seperate them into 2 or 3 bets as long as you dont invest more than 3 units overall. Note no half units.

Prices
To be obtained from http://www.tabonline.com.au and http://www.sportsbet.com.au only. Can include SANFL and/or AFL. And the following forms of betting are allowed-

Money Line - To Win
Spread/Line - Points
Margin - 1-39 and 40+ only no other margins will be accepted
No Draws are allowed

Tips for round are to be rec'd by 12 noon on Saturdays.

No need to enter at all, just start by posting your selections starting this week in the seperate thread I will commence shortly.

Any questions post here....

Good Comp
My only beef is that why include TAB
for 2 reasons
A they are not sponsoring this comp
B they will have worse odds than Sportsbet about 90% of the games

Also I would like it with sportsbet ONLY
put thier odds up Fridays and work off thier bets
I really cant be bothered checking the TAB on the off chance they are betting better odds.

Now I know Im not a punters a***hole but if your too lazy to check for the best odds then thats your decision if someone is willing to spend that extra 2 mins to find better odds then they should be rewarded.

TAB are poo yes but wouldn't that make it all the sweeter to only use them when your getting the overs?

Just my opinion but I like the idea of the two agencies.

Geez amazing what happens on a drive between Naracoorte and Adelaide!

All good debate guys, I tend to agree with Ecky however I dont think we can put a limit on it, as it is punting at the end of the day, Ive been in the footytrends comp the last 2 years and you have 10 units per week to spend and it pretty much is the best punters at the end of the day that win....

I think most of us understand how you win long term and punting at longshots aint it, hitting a 55%-60% range of even money lines will....I also encourage all of last years participants to beat their result from last year, set yorself the challenge to improve your punting.....this comp can be a great tool for this as Im sure there are plenty of punters that dont track all their bets

Unless there are some more posters coming in to support Ecky then we will go with no limit - and anyone thinking of taking up Ecky's suggestion of making up numerous aliases WILL get booted out of the comp...

Fair call on no having the TAB, seems most dont want them and just Sportsbet, Ill leave that for another day for debate but will remove them if majority support....

As for the NO BET weekends Im happy to give 2 weeks of no bets to cover the weekend where there is no SANFL as Id like to encourage punters who dont follow the AFL and will only punt the SANFL, but you cannot use the NO BET rule in the last 5 weeks of the season...thoughts?

Ill finalise all rules tomorrow night and again majority will rule so keep discussing!

If anyone has a business that would like to chuck in a $40- voucher or prize for 3rd feel free to contact me....Cheers

if using just SPORTSBET and it makes sense to just use them

can we have the option of halftime/full time doubles as well?

another option could be-

you start with say 15 units to spend however you want- once they are gone they are gone so if someone was going to continually go for massive outsider then they will come unstuck pretty quickly.

dont really have a case

Happy to go with the majority, but preferences would be

- don't mind sticking with just Sportsbet due to their sponsorship
- 3 units or whatever every round, no byes.
- Punk to be especially shamed if he stuffs up in the early rounds & pisses off, doubly sticky shamed if he uses the excuse that it's his Bulgarian computer with the illegal Somalian software the cheap bastard uses.

Just a thought, a small summary of why you've chosen the selection, will justify some of the big price winners that will no doubt occour (even if it's ''I like the colours'' for the Skirt supporters).

I agree in keepimg it limited to sportsbet.com.au since theyre sponsoring the comp.
One of the reasons I couldnt be arsed putting my tips in last year was because I couldnt be stuffed looking around on my limited time for pretend money.
Quite happy with whatever rules Dutchy puts in place but IMHO stuff the no bet rule and keep it to sportsbet.com.au is a definate.

I love the comp but dont wanna be surfing for the odds either.
Nothing worse than having 3 units on a team at odds and soon after the next person got better odds because they were lucky to be surfing at the right time.[or when that team shortens they equal your odds   ]
Make it set odds and its fair and square.

SPORTSBET is the sponsor, the TAB is thier competition
This is from the sportsbet front page

any betting option SPORTSBET offer on footy is what should be available to the comp

only use SPORTSBET forget all other agencies, if you are serious about real punting then of course you will surf other betting options

as MAY-Z mentioned maybe have a starting bank of units to be used at the discretion of the punter
