Yes, a disjointed economy is what we really need - it's like asking Republicans to work Queens birthday or non race goers to work Adelaide cup day.

Smac, we already have that as many people do work today. Would not be too hard to allow those who are religious to be those who have the day off at those firms.

Why?
I respect the rights of those who wish to worship, but they should respect my right not to.
Why should we remember 1 (alleged) barbaric murder over any other?

I would much rather celebrate Pagan holidays, as it is more in line with our history, & much more relevant imo...

Punk, if you respect the rights of those who wish to worship, then you will be against sport being played on Good Friday. There are at least 10 football players in SA whom I know who would not make themselves available to play today if there was a match on.

Naw, Pseudo. I have to admit that some of them do, but not all. A fair few are employed in the Catholic teaching sector though.

So because a small minority don't want to play the rest shouldn't?
Using that philosophy we shouldn't play football on any day of the week.
I personally didn't like playing games on Saturday or Sunday as I usually had a hangover, surely everyone else should respect my rights too? :?

Wedgie, the majority of the public don't go to football matches. Using your argument, all football must be cancelled then as it is only a minority who attend.

Why are they playing 2 games of NRL today, and 1 or 2 games of Rugby?

Wedgie, I am pretty confident that 600,000 people do not attend football matches in Adelaide every week.

I agree but your point was that we should not have something occur if only the minority follow it, or partake in it. It is not the majority of South Australians who attend football therefore, using that logic, we should ban the following of football.

By the way, I am pretty sure that more people attended church services today than attend football in SA on an average week. Figures of 150 000 are usually toted around for the number of people attending church services in SA on Good Friday.

Cheers

Perhaps we should have a minority day every 2 months to celebrate things the majority know nothing about, as an educational and socially broadening experience ??

No you're completely wrong, I don't care if noone follows Good Friday, it should be every week IMHO, as should Easter Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Labour Day, Adelaide Cup Day, Queens Birthday, etc I think we should have days off to celebrate these events every single day of the year, and by celebrating I think we should all congregate at a Football Oval and watch a great game of football such as that North or Geelong play whilst devouring many Coopers, swearing, smoking and sacrificing many virgins during the day too. :D

However, if we celebrated each of those events every day of the year, how would we know which one we would be celebrating?? Then again, would we care?? We would be permanently blotto!
I think we would eventually run out of virgins to sacrifice though! That may be problem.
