Vinnie Rugolo

Postby eaglehaslanded » Fri Mar 21, 2008 9:32 am

As an Eagles supporter I was devestated to hear the news That Vinnie Rugolo had chosen to leave us and travel further down Port Rd to play for the Magpies. I feel he was certainly a player hard done by the Fuller regime and still has plenty of league footy to play in future. I was just wondering how he was fitting in down at Alberton and how he's been going through pre-season, trials etc. Is he likely to be a starter in the league or is he going to be just another player that's destined to spend more time in reserves.

He's a bit like Roc Harry. Started with us, then moved to Port and was in the Reserves a lot of the times.

No surprises there woodwt - Fuller never gave him a fair go. Played some terrific games in the 2's and still didn't get a call up. This had been on the cards for a couple of seasons. Surprised it didn't happen earlier.

Has played up forward in the trials, got a thumping leg on him so it will certainly help out the forward line and take the heat of Hargraves. Looks fit and was having a laugh with the boys before the last trial so i say he's fitting in well.....

Didn't Vinnie start with Ports juniors ?
He had what one very good league year .
And he as a shinning light in the two's who should have had a better run in the league side. But he was to small to be a key forward, he played the key forward in the two's.
He is a bit like Oakly (spelling sorry) who came with Groeke from North .To small to be a full forward in a league team, the spot both really needed to be played in.

My only problem with Ron Fuller and small forwards at Oval Ave is Ron tries to turn them into mid fielders .This was one area that Vinnie could not do he was to big size wise(as in weight) to run all day.

And Alberton was not his first choice when he left Oval ave he was at training down south before that.
All the best vinnie .

Played his junior footy at Rosewater so he was a local lad playing in the Port zone. I believe WWT got him from the Port at an early age but never really cracked it there. Will play well for Port [-o< and add some life to a very boring forward structure, i hope.

As a doggies supporter was never worried about Rugolo, he may attempt to take a game apart but you always knew hts fitness was terrrible and that he could never play more than 10 minutes of good football before having to be benched again. IMHO handy at best may play one or two blinders in a season (even this weekend against the dogs) but there was 10 bad games in between every good one.

Vinnie was once a good player - fitness was his main problem though. I still think wash harshly dealt with at times by Fuller. I hope he cements a regular spot but I think we can cover him when we match up later in the year.

Yes he was EHL but he was to short for full forward .And his fitness made it to hard for him to be an onballer.

Id be pretty happy if he kicks a goal or two and creates a goal or two a game.

Looks a bit overweight to me. Weve sorely lacked an experienced crumber (unless Jezza went up forward) over the past couple of years so I hope he can stay fit and start playing good footy again.
