Dangerfield could play for the Crows this year - Neil Craig

Postby FD88 » Fri Mar 28, 2008 2:49 pm

“It's not out of the realms of possibilities for Pat Dangerfield to play AFL footy this year,” he said.

“He could play during school holidays and he doesn’t go to school on Saturdays.

“Just because he’s not here training week after week and playing in the SANFL doesn’t mean it limits his selection. His selection will be based on his form with West Adelaide in the SANFL and also with the Geelong Falcons.

Would be great to see the kid debut, but either way I wish people would shut up about the selection controversy. Based on what I've seen Dangerfield has more tricks in his bag than Ebert, and has the right capacities to address our weaknesses moreso than the SA boy.

The Crows will be easy game for the snipers because its going to be a year at least until we can assess whether the right kid was drafted ... until then its pure speculation

Every slightly good thing Brad Ebert does in the mean-time will be ammunition for the stirrers  :D

As a Crows supporter, I personally hope both players turn out trumps for their clubs

Care to elaborate on where this took place ? Ebert played with the Port Maggies last year and looked pretty good to me in a good competition.

Yeah me to Pup, EBERT.
Its easy for craig & Co to say Dangerfield would be playing in the Crows side today if he'd been training.
To me their just trying to justify their selection of him ahead of Ebert in the draft.
I know whats a better standard of competition as far as the SANFL or VFL & i hope Ebert smashes them tomorrow & proves it.

Ebert also has the makings of a good AFL footballer. No doubt about that.

Very happy for Brad. He rated him highly and a RS nomination would no doubt be a thrill for the kid. Why do you ask?

:? It's bizarre do we think clubs get sour grapes on guys they didn't draft and want them to fail :?

If they thought Dangerfield was the best option 3 months ago then they'd still think it and wouldn't be fussed ..... except when Port supporters keep bringing it up

Apart from hoping he has a bad game this weekend of course :D

I did say that in jest Hondo but i think it will make him (Rendell) feel slightly uncomfortable if this was to happen.

I'm not saying they would necessarily regret their decision to draft Dangerfield, but for the Crows if Brad was to start off his AFL career in a blaze of glory it wouldn't be ideal for them as it would put quite a lot of focus on the AFC's recruiting, rightly or wrongly.

The typically narrow view the media takes would generate scrutiny no doubt, but I would be backing the AFC to be unphased by this.

Dangerfield played in the ressies in the trial against souths, he is a rolls royce and looks "OUTSTANDING", this kid is special and the crows might have got this one right

Who went at pick 11 and pick 12? Why isn't everyone comparing Dangerfield to those guys? Why aren't the same people who are suggesting the crows got it wrong not also bagging the clubs who took the guys at 11 and 12 ahead of Ebert?

For starters, if Ebert got a rising star nomination for turning the ball over 50% of the time then there is something wrong with it, even though it seems nominations are awarded on stats only.

Secondly, for those backing Ebert to be the better footballer, how many of you have actually seen Dangerfield play?

Give both lads a couple of years first.

Got a feeling they might have gotten Taylor Walker right too, along with young Mackay ... Amazing how quickly things can (maybe) turn around

From all reports, Walker seems like a gem. I'm yet to see him play but when the Legs and Cocks clash I will get my chance.

Will take some time as most of the kids do, but moves very well, has a good leg and looks as though he can kick big goals at big moments ... Also seems to have the grunt/work ethic to go with ability.

Big call I know after only 3 trial games and a ressies match, but I think the boy will be something.

His performances interstate have also been very impressive. It was in a weaker comp but he stilled kicked bags against grown men which is a fair effort.
