very well played to the SOUTH boys

they played 4 quarters of footy against an opposition who showed very few glimpses of promise, and only decided to play footy in the last 1/4.

glenelg looked a mad hope of snatching a win in the last 1/4.

its a shame that certain glenelg players decided to do it all themselves rather then be part of a team, especially in the last 1/4.....

A great win by the panthers! I felt the boys all had a crack for the full 120 mins, which is pleasing after some of the spineless capitulations that we witnessed last year. Jack has certainly made a difference in this department. South applied relentless pressure ,which at times cost them dearly ,giving away stupid free kicks which always seem to goals to the Bays. Prendergast played by far his best game for the club - by miles! and did a great job in the ruck in Parry's absence. Torney was like a vacuum cleaner across half back and with the assistance of Bennett and Thewlis were key ingredients in the win.
Glenelgs' Grima was a good focal point up forward and looks like being a quality player, although his next game for the club could be 3-4 weeks away after one of the more stupid things you could wish to see. Thewlis emerged with a broken nose and plenty of claret flowing and with the benefit of a 50m penalty goaled, and South seemed to have the momentum from then on.
A particularly satisfying victory against the arch enemy .

South played four qtrs, we didn't play one.

We sould have won with more scoring shots and more forward 50 entries (by almost 2-1) but the pressure that South applied was far greater than ours and their willingness to work made us look inept.

Well done South you came ready to play we didn't you deserve the 2 pts.

BTW Torney BOG by so far it didn't matter...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'll only concentrate on one part of your post - the part about pressure and it costing free kicks/goals.

Centrals were in that boat, it doesn't seem that long ago either... Takes plenty of practice before it makes a consistent positive impact on the clubs playing style. I hope for their sake they can maintain it, great footy to watch, IMO.

As much as its only round one I was very pleased with what I saw today, I like the longer kicking style and more free flowing game that we played today when we had possession. Torney played a blinder of a game, yet he is a good example for South of what can happen when you get players on the field that really do want to play for the jumper.

Much has been made in the off season about our lack of recruiting, considering that we had recruited heavilly the season prior I felt that we got some good work out of Prendergast for one.

Like every other club in the SANFL we have more work to do, yet I am confident we can improve some more and get better as the season goes on. We got a touch up from the Magpies in the trial game, yet I think that we can and will play a better game this week.

Anyway, GO YOU PANTHERS!!!! 8)

Nothing beats sticking it up the BITCHES (Bays) once again......

A fantastic win by the South boys today. Playing with heart and pride for the jumper, something that has been missing for along time.

Cahill seems to have them switched on, I know its only round 1 but you can see something special and a bit of light at the end of the tunnel for South.

Alot of people have written off the Panthers but I have always had a belief people have underestimated their potential in 2008. Lets hope this tread continues throughout the year.

Well done Panthers....
and to the Bay supporters........\:D/
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Congrats to South, played very well today.

Played a pretty straight forward game, quite attacking, basically straight down the guts and keep attacking.

Much more switched on then the bays, and deserved the win.

And the Bays off to their traditional slow start to the season, and have a tough game next week.

well done south today we just werent good enough with our disposal - inside 50s prove that, 58-41 or something like that, we have a lot of soul searching to do (even after round 1) too much left to too few. f**k its funny how the cliches come into play when you lose, well done tommy logan and mouse - both guys were superb. I havent read the other posts except seeing Bithces in big bold writing. Enjoy it whilst you can and btw one win doesnt make us your bitches. Dont forget its a long season - remember last year?? i know i am sulking but stiff!!

Go Panthers!!!!!!

Been a lonnnnnng time between drinks :D

Just like to echo everything that has already been written about the game. The tackling and pressure around the ball was first class. Skill level has a long way to go but you couldnt question the spirit and endevour. Been a while since we've seen a unified south adelaide team.

Torney lead the team beautifully.

Mentions to Prendergast, Smith, Bennett, Otten, Bachmann, Thewlis and Turner. The whole back 6 played good footy and the talls up forward tried pretty hard. Warren and Iljcesen kicked 3 each.

Grima should get a week or two for his 'clumsy' attempt to spoil Thewlis. Had a great pair of hands today though.

Bachmann was good today "no-mercy". Kicked a few goals too I think.
