Woodville-Torrens is less of a mouthful as Woodville-West Torrens.

Didja hear that, Ma? I'm a bona-fide boffin!

Assume in the following that "Central" by itself is a singular form and "Districts" or "Central Districts" is plural.

Apostrophes are used:
1. to denote posession, e.g. Central's home oval
2. to denote missing letters, e.g. Central's playing shithouse = Central is

"its" is an exception to the first rule. it's means "it is". its means "belonging to it"

Apostrophes are not used for plural forms.
The Central Districts are up north.

However, an apostrophe can appear after a plural to denote posession:
Central Districts' home ground is Hamra Homes oval.

Alles klar?

There's an easier solution Wedgie...until the 2006 SANFL Grand Final you can refer to Central or Centrals (doesn't bother me which) as the REIGNING PREMIERS.

Central is from the Central area, or Central District. They are from one district, not one districts. If West changed their name to Western District, that would imply that they are from the western district. They are from the western area, or western district.

If that's the case why does official Central/s merchandise have "CENTRALS" written on it then?
he he, I love it when a club contradicts their own supporters.
Reminds me the of Port/Port Power/Port Adelaide/Port Adelaide Power/Port Powder Puffs debate. ;)
Come on clubs, work it out!

OK try this. It's a convenient shortened version ( again ). If it really bothers you so much try asking why
a) the Double Blues are referred to as The Blues
b) the Redlegs are referred to as the Legs
c) the Blood & Tars are referred to as the Bloods
d)Swan Districts are referred to as the Swans
e)Collingwood are referred to as the Woods
f)Tottenham Hotspur are refferred to as Spurs
etc.,etc.
Fairly sure I've heard the call"Go Norths" at Prospect too, as for the merchandise probably a logistical decision re. fitting Central District on a cap etc, one would need a head as big as one E.McGuire.

You've missed the point and I apologise as I tried to make it clear in my original posts, was even discussed today at Glenelg Oval.
For years there's been some Central/s fans who have had a go at fans of other clubs for referring to their team as Centrals.

My point was that its funny and ironic that be it right or be it wrong that official club merchandise actually describes the club as Centrals too.

I thought it was a simple point but my apologies if I didn't make it clear enough.

You could go through the entire alphabet 15 times over with examples but that's not the point that was made and contradicts what some Central/s fans have been saying for years. You actually back up my point with your many examples.

I must point out that its only in reference to some people on footysa as its never been an issue here but none the less an amusing ditty when you look at it.

Fair enough, however it does become tiresome being tarred with the same brush as a few numbnuts that support my club, bad enough listening to KG and Cornes blaming every adverse event in the world on fans of CDFC.

What a red herring of a thread.

I've never heard the Central/Centrals debate between Bulldog supporters. Usually it's the District/Districts issue and even that is far and few between.

"North Adelaide Salary Caps" - is that singular or plural?

Is this a "pre-defense" for a looming loss?

The Central side IS full of Bulldogs. The side is a single entity but it is full of many players.

Same here BB and MP and always thought it part of the charm the competition had upon the oldies when referred to teams in this manner ... Who really gives a flying fornication how any of it is pronounced so long as we know all know which club people are referring to! :)

I just find it funny that a bunch of blokes who make a mockery of the language that we call english have a go because we're adding an "s" to the end of their team name....

When them blokes learn to speak proper, I'll stop calling them Centrals

For mine, most Bulldog supporters, officials or players probably don't care which way or the other. They've been called worse by opposition supporters, most of the time from behind a full set of teeth.

Yeah my Dad says the same thing.

I really dont see why Central would crack it over an "s" or no "s". If people want to call North Adelaide.. "Norths" good luck to them. Its like Port whinging about being called Port Power !
