Trial game results

Postby carey18 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:57 pm

Just a question i have. Reading all these different threads with trial game results and every team that gets beat has a excuse like we have 15 out or crap like that. Y do we play them if a team that gets beat cant just say they were beat?. Have i had to many scotch cans or is there merit in what i say?.

I suppose there's some merit but really who cares, as soon as someone says it I'd imagine people just switch off and treat it with the contempt it deserves

Mate the results aren't important at all. Of course teams are gonna have guys out of their best 21 if they wanna give some young kids a taste of A grade football to see if they can cope. The fact that it's a trial game means the result shouldn't really be taken too seriously at all, because the teams aren't really taking it as seriously as they would a normal home-and-away game.

In 2007, we as a Div 4 side, beat SMOSH in a trial, who then went on the win the A3 flag.

Results mean nothing, and have no bearing on the season whatsoever, except to get some guys confidence and match-fitness.

I agree and disagree with ya Pag.....(very comittal hey?)

I think everyone is trying new things and the like with young players and different positions however your last 1-2 hitouts should be a fair indication of where you are at.....

C18 you're right in saying that the excuses roll thick and fast when a side loses.....which is a shame and a waste of time considering come round 1-18 noone will give two ***** what happened in the trials.... :)
Harsh but fair.....

EVERY side will have players out regardless of whether they won or not. The honest teams will state that either way. At the end of the day, trial games mean diddly squat. After the first 9 rounds we will know who is looking good. Then one side will emerge victorious in their division - ask a player fropm that side who they played in a trial game just after they win the GF. Don't reckon they'll be able to tell ya...

Trial games do and don't (now I'm doing it!) mean much.
Yes they can help with confidence, match fitness and are an opportunity to experiment, but a smashing might damage that confidence and there's a slight chance of injuries (*poorly sung* bye bye match fitness). They can also act as a rough guide to what individual players are capable of.

Teams will never say "We just got beaten". Players might, but teams will hardly ever say it.
Are you gonna eat that?
