Magarey Votes - least possessions

Post by CK »

Hi Spelly,

Someone asked me this the other day, and I'm not sure if you'll have it but worth a try - what is the least number of possessions recorded in a match for a player who has polled Magarey votes in the match? It came up when discussing Sean O'Keefe's game against Sturt in 2006 at Broadspectrum when he recorded 55 possessions and didn't poll ANY votes.

I remember when I was playing in Hills, a player recorded a third preference vote when his first run was in the final term and his total match stats were one handball. I'd hope this isn't replicated here!

Cheers

I know of a player who received votes in the RFL when he was actually holidaying in Bali at the time. The only possessions he had were cheap Bintang t-shirts and rip off sunnies.

Same has happened in the HFL Dogwatcher. Rob Clothier from Uraidla polled 3 votes in a Ironbank v Onkaparinga Valley game a few seasons ago and often polled in Uraidla games that he didn't play. Could play though. He did win 5 mail medals after all.

I haven't kept a stat on this and at the moment I've only got Magarey Medal votes round by round from 2003 onwards, and total votes per player per season before that. It would take me a long time to work this one out, even just from 2003! ;)

I wasn't the umpire, but I was given the envelope to award best players 3-2-1 in my local club's best & fairest. At the end of the season the votes were tallied, and the guy I gave second best on ground didn't poll a vote!!! God only knows what happened to my votes :)
