I tell ya what, that Scott Thompson's a thug isn't he. During the game today I saw him tackle a bloke, pin his arms and take him to the ground. He should be banned!

I'm more reflecting on exactly what you said, and being a smart a*se to boot, that Thompson tackled a player in that correct fashion and took the player down. The situation just wasn't amplified by the Hawthorn player being concussed.
Crows supporters would have been applauding that good tackle, and so they should.
I think while Bassett's concussion was unfortunate, the tackle of Thompson's in today's game will hopefully put a bit of perspective on last week's incident for the supporters who thought Thomas's act on Bassett was thuggish.

Didn't see the incident DW so I was just making a comment on tackling, thats why I asked for clarification, that you obviously saw it and thought something was wrong with it, i saw the Bassett incident last week and didn't think that there was any problem with it

Cool mate, it wasn't a very clear post initially. Fair to ask.

And agreed, nothing wrong with either tackle. Play on.

Hawks too good today - intense pressure on the ball carrier and we were found wanting

Buddy is so tough to handle so quick and yet almost 200cm!

I stick by my pre-season pick of a Geelong v Hawks GF

All credit to the Hawks they looked fantastic today

On the crows, I went into this week with high hopes, we certainly looked flat today, however, I hope the club learns a fair bit from todays game, if they do, this loss may serve us in the future

1. Tippett at the moment he is our only fit player that is capable of playing as a power forward, he demands the ball, he is strong on a lead and as we seen in the 3rd qtr he can take an excellent pack mark. NC needs to bring Maric into the side to enable Tippett to play forward all game.

2. We need to select players that are prepared to take the game on, I am sorry to say, the game has passed Shirley and IMO Campbell is not the type of player that we should be selecting. I would rather see NC throw an Otten's in until Radar and Knights are fit, rather then plugging the side with Shirley or Campbell.

3. The small forward position is a concern, the hawks have shown a lot of coutage and faith in selecting Cyril Rioli, I would like the crows to show the same courage and faith in Jacky

4. Van Berlo, he looks lost in his role as an attacking midfielder, IMO this is not his natural game, I would like to see VB play across HB or as a defensive midfielder in the K Cornes or C Ling type of role

5. Kenny McGregor, yes at times is capable of taking a contested mark, however his leg speed and recovery is very very ordinary, the game is too quick for Kenny, however the options are thin with no Gill or Hentchel at present, Stevens may be a better option up forward with Tippett

6. Today we certainly made an error in playing unfit players, Bassett had one of his worse games for the club, Proplyzia was servicable, however, was not his usual self winning the contested ball

Finally, special mention to Vince and Symes, hopefully they can keep stringing games together and keep developing, Doughty's game was also very good.

It is tough to come back from physical games no matter what labels are put on them by marketing maggots. Adelaide took in sore bodies on one less day's preparation with one extra plane to catch and for me this was one of the most predictable results of the round.

The Hawks once agian played well when they needed to, but allowed the Crows to get somewhat back into the contest a couple of times. Of the three matches that they have played this season, I think that they have been able to play close to four quarters only once. In rounds 2 and 3 they won only 5 of the eight quarters played, but managed to fight on and register important wins for the club.
The was much talk prior to the season that the season for Hawthorn would rest a lot on their start while playing without some of their established midfield players..They have come through well and it must be rememeber that just as Geelong have a couple of regular players to come back in, the Hawks have not yet come close to their best 22 on the park together.
- Croad (played only 10 min of round 1)
- Crawford (first game today)
- Lewis (played only round 3)
- Mitchell (missed today)
- Hodge (missed round 1)
- Williams (first game today)
- Boyle (missed today)
- Dew (played only 1 and a half games)
- Clarke (missed round 2 and 3) debatable if in best 22

SD - the comment about Tippett is what i've felt for 4 weeks now.

The Crows would be far greater served with Tippett up forward and Maric in the ruck or Sellar up forward and Tippett in the ruck - the current combination isn't something that will handle the pressures of a full season.

We are in desperate need of leg speed in the front half though. C Rioli / A Davey / M Stokes kind of player - who works as hard in defensive and attacking positions - we currently lack that kind of player....

The Crows had a bad day.. caused by strong bodies and a very good team.
The Crows are still 6th and have a reasonable month coming up....
Fraudmantle at home (Thanks to MAL on that one!  )
Carlton away - can't wait to head back to the MCG for this game!!
Kangaroos at home
Melbourne at home

Should really win 3 of these 4 as a minimum and be at worst 5-3....
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Definitly worth a shot have Tippet as a key forward. Maric must be tried in the ruck with Griffen.

Wankfests might be what you get up to in front of the computer, I merely offer my opinion. I selected Hawthorn to win and I got the tip correct. I still don't rate Casson and I still think that Adelaide will peter out as the season progresses and you still haven't come up with anything except a throwaway sledge to back up what you were talking about.

Cheers,
