Banking Grievance

Postby SCD » Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:52 pm

I open my credit card statement today - interest of $150 - almost double what it normally is...

I call to question (and complain) and the rude little so and so I get tells me - I can work out my own interest....  because it will take at least a couple of hours...

20 mins later when I have used their formula, it should be $80. - they have charged me a rate of over 35%!!!

When I ring dispute resolution and get a fax number to send through my workings - I ask about getting the entire interest balance removed for the month for my inconvenience.. and I was laughed at....

Looks like the NAB will be getting my fax in the morning and the Banking Ombudsman will be getting a call from me in the morning!!

ABSOLUTE DISGRACE NAB!!!!!!

Hope you don't mind scaffidi but I changed the title of your thread but left your post alone, your title was a tad contraversial and the NAB have better lawyers than we do.

Doesn't the Ombudsman only assist re complaints re govt depts?? I may be wrong here..I would have thought that Consumer Affairs would be better.

Noooooo, the bank I previously worked at jumped 8 ft in the air when the Ombudsman was ever mentioned.

Yes. Go to the Ombudsman. Mention it to the Bank and I think they'll come to the party.

The process is the Ombudsman will refer your complaint to the Bank and ask them to negotiate an outcome with you.
If this doesn't work out the dispute then needs to be mediated by the Ombudsman and this is were it starts costing the Bank money. Once the complaint gets to this stage I think it costs the Bank approx $2000 to keep the process going. In most cases the Bank will realise it's a waste of time and money arguing over a small amount and will reach a compromise.

i know this is highly unlikely in most cases and slightly off topic

but if you have CREDIT on your CREDIT CARD, you get paid the interest on it each month!!!!

i never knew that or had even thought about it until i got told last night.
