Fos Williams liked the South Melbourne (ie Sydney) song and did steal it. (in the 50s or 60s from memory)
Its in the Dynasty book.
Of course like most club songs it was originally stolen from another tune.
IIRC in the SANFL Norths song is the only one not stolen and adapted from another clubs.

That is correct Wedgie,it (the North song) is original and its maker decided against designing it to be used a celebrationary song in September/October..

Reckon I saw a thread on this somewhere else about all club songs and was surprised to learn Port didn't adopt their current song until about 1972 ...

Not with ya Booney as the North song has been used as a celebratory song in September and October several times.

In fact Wedgie there was another North club song written not so many years ago which was quite good but never released or even really advertised to the supporters, it was however basically used as the club song for supporters when we went to Melbourne for the Fosters Cup comp

i still like belting out "a tiger for me" when we're winning!

you only need to start singing the first few words and it gets the whole club singing along...:)

Your not talking about that song Jock came up with and we drunkenly sung for 6 hours on the bus to the Collingwood game?

GWW is spot on i recall russell ebert talking about this on the radio one day, they heard it after a trial against south melbourne so with r.ebert playing it would have to be late 60's early 70's, & the tune is taken from notre dame
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I believe Bob McLean pinched/borrowed that song from South Melbourne.
Did Johnny Mac write the North song...I remember them launching it with him singing it. I have a feeling he wrote it too...Wedgie ???????

I miss some of the old club songs for the Doggies...

One of their originals, and my favourite one, was BEWARE THE DOGS ARE COMING...

That was great, I remember singing it when I was 9 or 10, used to love it...

I'm not a huge fan of our current one (same as Hawthorns) but it is better than that bloody "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT, WHOOF, WHOOF, WHOOF
crap they play when Centrals run out onto the ground when at home...

I didn't mind an earlier one we had, it was titled "THIS TIME, MORE THAN ANY OTHER TIME"

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...
