I liked that one too!

Was a great club song to sing Wedgie, I just wish we had the chance to sing with at least one of our premierships, would have been the icing on the cake for me !! I reckon my old man has it on cassette tape somehere ? Might have to try A Toss Of The Coin down at Unley to find my own copy ???

How do you reckon your boys will go this week ? Reckon they can turn it round ? Bet you're hoping Hargy doesn't kick 10 !!!?? Didn't he kick 7 or 8 in a game against you guys last year ? Blokes always lift against their old clubs don't they !!??

Did Johnny Mac write the North song...I remember them launching it with him singing it. I have a feeling he wrote it too...Wedgie ???????

Yes. Johnny Mac wrote the North song. He was a local artist of some profile (had a hit with "Pink Champagne" IIRC). Also ironically a Sturt supporter, and his son Brett Mackereth played league football at Woodville.

The 1976 Grand Final budget has the lyrics to the "old" Port song in it and I don't think they started using the new one until 1977, but I could be mistaken.

I too miss the old Centrals songs - the best part of our heritage games the past couple of years was that these songs got another airing at these games.

My favourite was 'Beware the Dogs are coming' as well. Wish it was re-instated.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Having played at the club during a couple of these songs... I was very pleased when they changed it - as much as it is a copy of someone elses song, at least it can be sung with passion by a group of footballers. Some of the others lacked a bit and it felt like a choir rehearsing.

At least when we copied the song, we changed it to "winning team" at the start - would have spewed if we used "happy team".

I loved Beware The Dogs.....pride of the plains. Written/sung by Swanney IIRC.

This time, more than any other time....was an soccer song (Hammers?)
I've sung the opening lines of that at some games when we're winning, received strange looks from a few supporters. ;)

Lyrics to "This time" penned by Roy Laird, was adapted from an English soccer club (but I have no idea which one).

IIRC it was adapted from England's FIFA World Cup campaign theme of either 1994 or 1990.

Yeah, that's right Smac, Roy is very talented indeed, Real Estate Agent, Super Coach, Song Writer and Top Bloke... =D>

Wasn't that the song where a whole group of supporters helped sing and record it when we had the old club rooms, pre Grand Central days ? I can remember hanging around the club as a young kid and something rings a bell about that ?? :-k

I do remember buying it on CD single (or even casette, can't quite remember exactly hold long ago it was)... :-k

After we beat Norwood in the Prelim (95) I remember giving it to the old man to play in the car on the way home, I reckon it was on 'repeat' and would have played close to 100 times over !! It was agreat drive home, hanging out the window with our scarfes, singing it at everyone going past !!! \:D/

I wish the club would bring back "We're The Pride Of The Plains", best song ever I reckon !!

I remember singing it over and over after that prelim too!
I got told off for giving the Norwood supporters a send off as they left part through the last quarter "see ya next year, see ya next year!" "Don't do that, it's not good sportsmanship." "They've done it to us for yearrrrrrrrrssss." "Then you should know how it feels." I've never done it again lol.
The other thing I remember is listening to Gary Window going off on the radio after the game. He was soooo emotional.

PS: Phil, you said it was done before Grand Central days, it was also done before Grand Final days!

Sorry DW but ANYTHING that provides oxygen for Swanee's "career" can't be good.:P

And the writer of Pink Champagne, which you seemed to know so much about, is much better? 8)

Me too.

Lyrics make it a definate period piece from Centrals' character rich but ultimately unsuccessful 80's "Decade of the Dogs".

Certainly holds a special place in Centrals' history and one of the few in SA footy history (or footy generally - happy to be corrected) not an "adaption" from interstate or elsewhere.

Hey DW, good question mate...

I was actually going to ask that myself, if someone out there had ANY of the Doggies old songs recorded ???

I would love to be able to get them onto my IPOD, would make for great listening again !!

Don't know about when it was released though, I though it was when we used to wear the blue shorts ? Real early 90's maybe... ? I'm happy to stand corrected if anyone out there knows ???

Might post the same question on the Doggies forum, maybe someone there can help out ???

PM Dogsbody too, I think he had a good collection of most of the SANFL clubs so there's a chance he'd have a couple of the Dogs songs.
