The tram line.

What a joke. A Government so keen to get people fit. Pour money into childrens education to eat well and exercise 30 minutes a day and we build a extension to take the 15 to 20 minute time it takes to walk to the tram/train.

Yeah, the elderly and disabled need to get their heart rates up

I must have been mistaken I thought people used the bus down King William Street

And nothing better then tourists catching a tram from the Bay and the line stopping many blocks away from the central train station / city centre

Whole lotta  's :D

And de-contaminating an extremely polluted site will not take much time... Lets not forget deisel powered trains going under a building for sick people......As I said, put it to the people. Lets see what they really want........

And with the money they spent on the tram extention...maybe a really good idea was to provide the eldery and disabled with funding for extra health services.....

Typical quote if South Australia Never got rid of trams your network would be as good as Melbourne's. A Tram doesn't create as much pollution as a car or bus does. I prefer trams to buses and when i did live in adelaide I would take the bus or train more often than driving if i could.

Actually, there is all that electrical field pollution which gives me a headache when I drive under the bl..dy things, and the huge pollution cost of generating the electricity with dirty forms of coal use, although you may not notice because of the smoke pollution generated by the "Department of Sustainability and the Environment" rendering the air in Victoria unbreathable all the time..

Melbourne's trams are only of any use to people who can afford to live in the inner areas. The train alternative in Melbourne is unpleasant, dirty, and unreliable, and I wouldn't leave my wife alone at a train station like Boronia trying to catch a train to the city!

I don't blame you there Psyber I live in Werribee and I catch the train to work most days and watch the people all cram into the train by the time we reach Laverton. But with the trams the SA government built a gas burning power plant at Dry creek for the electrification of the rail network and it would have been enough for the trams as well.

I am paying 3 dollars more for pale Ale here in Werribee. But your petrol was cheaper than melbourne's by 6 cents.

Well, apart from the increase in house values along the tram line it now seems that small 1.6km extension has triggered an increase in development plans around that section of the city - as reported in the national financial papers. In fact the article quotes the cost of the extension as "very modest". I guess its all relative I agree at face value $31m could be lumped sum as a grant somewhere but they tend to get lost in department budgets at least the tram line will see some return to the taxpayers in the future if these new development stories are OTM.

The current government has chosen the most vindictive and childish plan of action to build a temporary grandstand in Victoria Park, the same size as the the one the council canned and it will be there in various degrees of completeness for most of the year, this is a terrible outcome. If the three stooges, that are the main players in our State cabinet had any balls they would sack the ACC and put up a permanent structure. Why didn't they do it? Because Dr Lomax-Smith would lose her seat in the next election and most probably resign from the government before that election. Terrible decision for political expediency....poor fella my state :( The welfare of the ALP is more important than making the proper decisions for the state. Norm Foster must be turning in his grave.

So we will just spend an extra 600 k per year putting up a grandstand to be a smartass to the ACC......Makes sence seeing the government is big about spending excess money atm :-k

The Liberals have offered Rann the support he needs in Parliament to get a permanent structure, he won't do it though because Lomax-Smith will walk. She has already broken cabinet solidarity once and she'll do it again, typical champagne socialist tree-hugger.

Yes the millionaires that live on East Terrace are her constituents  whereas the the working class people in the Northern and Southern suburbs that support her party and enjoy the Clipsal 500 can get stuffed. Not high brow enough for our "socialist" Jane who happens to be quite wealthy herself, she once had her own private pathology company. I wonder if she and hubby are members of the Adelaide Club?
