Doesn't matter who the forwards are if the midfield can get it in quick to a leading forward goals will be scored. Don't get me wrong North will miss Gill but not enough to even up the contest. FWIW NNorth will have a better conversion rate (goals:points) this game.
About two thirds of Norths goals last week were kicked by their midfield or resting midfielders in the forward line.
At the minute North have the best midfield in the comp, not having both Gowans for Centrals will relieve the pressure some what on the North midfield and allow them to deliver it more quickly to the forwards who ever they are.
That is why North will win this game.
IMHO the 2006 interpretations on the laws of football are taylor made for quick running midfield orientated teams. The effectiveness of scragging defenders/taggers has been diminshed somewhat by the new interpretations. This is the major reason for North and to a much lesser extent Glenelg's performance this year but it certainly has helped those teams.
I only wish these rules had come into effect when Paul Northeast was playing, he would have been umpired out of the game, thank christ.
Never underestimate the value of a good forward to provide you structure and a target, the bottom line is though, if the ball doesn't get down there via the midfield, well your forwrds are as useful as a pocket on a singlet.........
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
