And no Eagles fan has ever criticised their players of course.

I thought the Umpiring was extremely biased.

Great to catch up with Wedgie in the RSL after the match. :D

No one including me  mentioned the last goal of the first quarter.
Would have thought Norwood fans would have been complaining about that goal.If your saw it you would know what I was talking about the ball rolling rolling and rolling through after the siren went !!

Given that he kicked it before the siren went I'm not going to listen to a word you ever say aout umpiring ever again.

Personal Post Only

The Norwood Oval was in great condition and there could be no excuse for poor skills.

A reasonable crowd and from the western/Norwood stand the noise seemd fairly even with a good amount of support for the eagles from the outer wing. Reckon was about a 55:45 split Norwoods way.

The Umps were very hot on the in the back last night but were also very consistent- we gave away quite a few but when we were in front also got our share. Was very clear you had to be in front last night. Also having 2 goals without the ball going back to centre was interesting - havent seen that for a few years now - was a little surprising in that the pushing and shoving had really stopped when the Norwood lad went back in and got pinged.

The scoring shots were the same but our pressure made it more difficult for norwood thus more points for them and our accuracy was tops. But Eagles fans is it a concern that opposition are able to have that many shots?

I was really pleased with all our boys as i thought all contributed during the game. Thought Passador straightened us up. Great to see Symmo back too. Also in the twos Cicca and Colville looked good in their first run along with Twomey returning. Hentschell looked good too.

Really important for eagles fans to be there to support next week with Westies celebration day and our boys cannot think we've had a win and it will be ok from now - they have to turn up in the same frame of mind as last night.

Highlight for me was meeting Spelly - and was surprised how young he is!! maybe i'm just old!

Probably because i'm old the downer of the night was 10 minutes after the game as the crowd was thinning and the Norwood coaching panel were still in their box obviously reviewing what had happened and from the oval were abused with the foulest langauge (f&c) from a supporter - to yell such words with kids having a kick and catch and women and children still in the stands was really disgraceful and not acceptable. I know Norwood people in the stands were angry and disgusted and whilst footy is passionate all of us really have a responsibilty to uphold standards by our behaviour.

In the end the Eagles superior skill level and more direct style footy was the biggest difference last night ... Some of the goals they kicked, particularly in the 1st quarter were ultra classy and unfortunately each time my boys had a dip and worked themselves back into the game we lacked that polish or class to kick the next goal ro really challenge them.

Any team playing for their first win after a string of losses will feel the heat and given our boys wouldn't go away would have kept the pressure up on the Eagles, but to their credit they handled it extremely well and posted a thoroughly deserved win.

Norwood looked good on the odd occasion they went long and direct, but the sideways rubbish they've played for too long just undoes any good work that preceded it.

The Eagles have had plenty of them & theres alot of experience playing in the Bs, when these players return to the As we should see a rapid improvement in the side.

I reckon that's an excellent call NM ... Good clubs don't need excuses, something I've been hot on trying to remove from our club.

Constance_Perm very good post .Several times your beloved legs had my Eagles almost on the ropes.
I pointed out in the other topic the way to play Norowood over FAST.To often Norwood went wide and over did the handball. And when you did score fast goals you revirted back to over handballing and going wide.
It was a good win by my Eagles not a great win my Eagles held your legs at bay. But its a win to start to build a season on.

I do think you guys need to work on your fans in that public stand what they are doing can not be good for your club.

I think the 3rd most successful club of this century is starting to stir Dog_ger not awake just yet mate .
Two more senior players in the two's should be back soon and Twomey look good.

I pointed that out to my lad last night during the match CD.I also added the EAGLEs have to try and play like North have done in the past kick large scores beacuse the back line at this stage is not the clubs strongest point.

This is what I wrote as my review of the game on a thread that got locked (for some reason) last night...

Hooray! A win!

I didn't get there till half way through the second quarter, but the Eagles looked switched on and ran out the game well. Every time Norwood got within a couple of goals, the Eagles would meet the challenge and keep them at arms length. Some poor discipline by Norwood cost them any chance they had in the final quarter.

The conditions were perfect and the game was generally free flowing and reasonably skillful. Both sides had good forward targets, but the long and direct game plan of the Eagles won out. Powell was a stand out as b.o.g. for me. Salter was very good, playing on the ball and kicking a few goals. Treeby was his usual self - having developed consistency in his game at this level to match the likes of McKenzie and Powell as the Eagles most valuable players.

Of the young guys I was very impressed with Mackie and Fitzgerald. I didn't see a lot of upside to Mackie when I saw him for the only time against North, but what I saw tonight was a tough in and under player who has excellent quick hands and does the one percenters such as smothers and tackles. That was easily Fitzgerald's best game I've seen. He now has the necessary fitness to last out the game and make the right spots. He is clever and will hopefully keep improving throughout the season.

It will be nice to have a weekend knowing a win is already tucked away.

Yes, I agree. The idea of being a supporter is to SUPPORT. Anyone can knock, it's very easy to do, especially when frustrated. For the record, I'm not convinced by Hill's coaching, but he has been appointed by the Norwood Football Club as coach, and deserves the support of the members. If this supporter feels it appropriate to behave in this manner, then we don't need them.

Anyone can support a club that is winning. People with real character support their club come rain or shine.

I think it's impotant for any member to have their say if they dont agree with something or are unhappy about something to do with their club, but it needs to be done in a controlled manner ... Flying off the handle shouting obscenities pretty rightly mean's your greivance won't even register.

The only reason i mentioned it was no matter what club we just dont need that at the footy and further to that I thought the Norwood lads certainly put in all night as I'm sure did the coaching panel.

Also with sponsors and guests still talking in groups in the stand that lasting image even though well after the end of the game hurts the club and no club needs that.
