Adelaide started off with a more enterprising style of play but as the season goes on I believe old habits will return. And this is unsuccessful (ultimately) football that has arguably only delivered one premiership this decade.

Its not that the AFL is carp, it is just the modern style of keepies off, avoid the contest play clinical style that permiates through the AFL that makes it relatively un-apealing compared to the SANFL footy, IMO.

I had the privilage of seeing a top footy side today (Sturt) if I didn't have an official pass it would have cost me $8 compared to 3 times that if I want to go to an AFL game.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I would suggest the 'keepings off' is not as moderen as you believe. Hawthorn, Geelong and Western Bulldogs don't play this way and lo and behold have a look at the ladder. I've heard that Sturt are playing very well at the moment. A mate of mine back home is a made keen Sturtie who went to games regularly during the bad old days so I'm sure he's enjoying his SANFL footy. I didn't mean to disparage the SANFL, rather than point out that the AFL game is evolving past the (for want of a better description) 'Sydney-Adelaide' game style and I thought I witnessed a 2005 time machine when I watched some of the Freo v Adelaide game today.

I think the wheel is turning on the styles of play now - play on, forward moving footy is increasing.

On top of that Tas, there is the hassle of actually watching a live game. Today, my parents went to the Crows match, took 6 hours from leaving home to getting back there. If you like live footy, AFL is getting pretty tiresome for many folk.

I took the kids to the beach this afternoon and decided to pop in to a footy match on the way home and it was pretty easy and some good footy.

I'll argue and I bet Hawthorn, geelong and WB still prefer to kick to space for the leading player to run on too compared to kicking to a contest. It does help when you have a dominant forward like hawthorn do at teh minute.

Living in Victoria up until September last year REB I saw a lot of non Crows footy and whilst the game has evolved into a more attack orientated style in the last two years it still (IMO) at the elite level a highly clinical sterile game of football comapred to the SANFL....

With Trent Croad back in the Hawks line up and being able to perform as he did tonight, the Hawks look like their defensive woes are not as bad as if often talked about. Sure Bradshaw ran amok and had eleven scoring shots, but not too many teams have two top quality big defenders, Geelong an exception.
To keep Brown to 2 marks and only one behind is great effort any day of the week.

To ponder, has the thought ever been of Tim Boyle becoming a backman. He wouldnt be the first forward to move back and the forward line of the Hawks looked pretty good again tonight without him.

That's probably the best way of putting it, more attacking, but still just as robotic - the word I like to call it.

LMAO broderik. The Gorillas kicked 17 snags tonight and don't have the smaller forwards that Geelong, Sydney, Bulldogs, Collingwood or North have. Also, I would have thought it was more like this 'has the thought ever been of Tim Boyle becoming a league footballer'. The guy is seriously average. I hope the Hawks are 16-0 when we take them on in round 17.

Not at all mate. Never have and never will be a Crows supporter.

But it will be over time the call of the Crow - 6 hours out of your day to watch a game of footy is ridiculous. The supporters will find other games to watch, no doubt.

Sorry mate! Sheesh of all things to call people!

My potshot was down to the fact that I used to catch two buses to go to Norwood, Football Park, even that 5hitehole Elizabeth and freeze your ar5e off Carlunga. But I have to admit I was a lot younger then and with no kiddies to consider. Please accept my apologies! Play on.
