Glenelg v South

Postby am Bays » Sat May 06, 2006 6:19 pm

Bays win by 10 pts after being down by 9 pts at lemon time.

Great win for us at shows that we are fit, can come over the top of an opponent, and have a strong desire to win can come back from a 3/4 time deficit.

Two important planks of our improvement fitness and desire.

Got to keep working on our skills and the results will come.

Well done boys and everyone associated with the team.

Keep working hard as hard work will bring success.

GO BAYS
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I was at the game today and South controlled most of the game but the Bays came through when it counted in a gutsy display.
I honestly think the difference was the support from the loyal black and gold snouts and other Bays fans.

My 3-2-1:

3 - Adam Fisher
2 - Craig Parry
1 - Richard Douglas

Pics of the games to come, some goodies of the Snouts in there too.

Definately got a couple of pics of TB, and one in a very uncompromising situation with another Bays fan!
Stay tuned, they'll be up in 10 mins.

Also, quote of the game from the South supporter in the bottom left of the photo below.

"Richard Williams, you're so blind you're a guide dog!"

WTF? I thought the dog was the one that could see, I honestly could see Richard almost pissing himself laughing at that taunt!
I was almost going to explain to this guy how stupid his comment was but realised he was a few jail cells short of a southern suburb and didn't bother.

I stood with the Snouts for most of the game (start and the last 3 quarters), just near the path on the southern side (near Pseudo).
Spent most of the 1st quarter on the outer wing to take some snaps as due to the breeze the ball didn't look like coming to the Western side.

Congratulations to the bays(gee that hurt), far more desperate when it really mattered, and really wanted it more than our fellas.
In previous posts i have been critical of Pymans' game plan this season. It seems that players are instructed to play on at all costs and handball, handball, handball, handball, handball, handball, handball even if there is an opposition player standing beside your intended target. Playing ring a rosy with handball when kicking with the aid of a four goal breeze is plain dumb. Some of our players are amassing enormous stats that really to me don't count for anything. If you have 2 useful forwards it is probably a good idea to go long and direct to them rather than churning up the centre square handballing it and frustrating Warren & Cupido. Cupido was ordinary today and really was not worth whatever we are paying him. Warren will require 2 shoulder reconstructions as he was dragged out of any marking contest he went near.
Parry was again our best but I thought the bay big men gradually got on top of him. The bays have recruited well, and have filled there deficiencies from last year very well, I beleive they will play finals footy this year.

Very poor, I don't know what the official figure was but I would have guessed about 1600-1700 depending on how many were in the pokies room.
Bugerall South fans there, 75% Glenelg fans and IMHO that was the difference in the end.

I'm good mates with a South fan and he chose not to come so he could get prepared for the Showdown tonight, very sad, but probably an indication on where South's supporters are at as a whole and why they'll continue to lose close games like this at home, their players must wonder why they bother at times.
(Apologies to the few South fans that were there)

Mind you having said that, there was probably about 2000 less Bays fans than attended Glenelg Oval on Sunday too.

Chris Kendall said on RPH at 2.00 p.m he thought there were no more than about 800 at that stage!

You can see why the Govt. only charge South one dollar a year rent for the next 99 years as the gate takings wouldn't get you a pie and coke after costs were taken out!

Very good point, I went close into the 2 huddles at 1/4 time and in the 2 or 3 mins I spent at the South huddle his only instruction was exactly that, to handball, handball, handball, at all costs.

Speaking of Chris Kendall it was good to finally catch up with him today, ironically at a game where neither of our teams were involved.

South are as bad as north. Pretenders at best. Spend the cash for some minor round joy, but give sweet FA in the long run.

I said to my mate Brew half way through the 3rd quarter that if South kicked the next goal the game was over, they were about 4 goals up, still had a good 10 mins with the breeze and it could have got ugly.
After a South forward flurray Glenelg rebounded against a gale and kicked a goal and then proceeded to kick the next 2 against the breeze.

Good stat on LifeFM after the game that the game was won against the breeze.
Bays only kicked 1 more point than South with the breeze BUT the Bays kicked 9 points than South did against the breeze and that my friends is where the game was won.
