If the capacity at Unley is 15,000 people, than this week it will be announced that Timmy got the sack and the next coach at Port Magpies will be Roy Laird !!??

I can not physically see how the hell you'd fit that many people into a small ground that has access to about half of the outer closed off ???

Unbelievable that the crowd record for the newly named "House Brothers Oval" was over 24,000 spectators way back in 1924. It was a battle of the two Eastern suburbs clubs in Norwood and Sturt but it got me thinking about whether the grandstands were even there back in the 20's or would it have just been packed and packed mounds of people watching the game ?

Can't fathom that half of the AAMI Stadium capacity has fitted into to a tiny suburban paddock that is a part time dog park and playground with a footy oval somewhere amongst that !!?? Imagine the catering nightmares at a game with 15,000 people ?!! They'd be sold out of all drink and hot food by quarter time of the ressies !!??

Interesting facts though, needless to say. Still a little bamboozled by some of the figures given on that link though, sorry doesn't seem right ??!!

I think that you will find that the McKay stand was built a few years before 1924 no idea what the outer was like. The 15000 figure was possibly the old max capacity before the move in 1986.

Even 8000 would raise some serious public safety concerns today

Well I did put a wink after my comment!
I don't think I'd like to be at House Bros Oval when there's 8000 people.
And Big Phil there used to be an old stand where the Jack Oatey Stand now is that was demolished in about 1970 from memory.
I was there in the late 78 when Baggy kicked 10 against Port and there were over 19,000 there that rainy day. I have great memories of the BlueBird Girls and their lycra apparrel right in front of us.

With the depth we're showing across the grades thus far SP, another golden era is pretty much a certainty. I detect the slightest hint of sarcasm in MT's post. If he said we'd win every premiership between now and 2015, he'd probably be correct... Oh, and we'll more than likely provide the Magarey winner in each of those years too...

the blues have a huge game vs the bays, they have had us figured out the last few meetings and should go into the game just as confident, if not more, than the blues. we have some issues down back with height and your forward and midfield will be strong. here's to a cracking game that should be a fantastic one for the sanfl.

That may be the case John and I guess it would be the legal capacity concerning insurance etc, however the Unley City Council HAS put a cap at 8000 and I guess the club agrees to this. Here's a link about it.

hmm, we used to be a wet weather team until a few years ago, will be interested to see if rick has us charged for a the damp weather!!

From what I understand, our pressure has been a major part of our performances this year. That should be all the more telling in the confines of the House, but the wet weather is something we haven't had to deal with yet this year. It is a pretty big factor and will give us a better idea of just how far we have come.
Still early days though, but we owe the Tigers and should be a cracker of a match.

I have seen a photo of Unley Oval with a small stand in the place where the Jack Oatey Stand is now situated. The photo was black and white and the stand was way in the back ground, so it was hard to tell the details, save that it was a small stand, but the terraces rose up pretty high on that side. Gives some idea on how they used to fit 20,000+ in the old days.

Showers wont really benefit Sturts forward line of Herring, Perrie and Chmabers either. TRB you are tight Sturts pressure has been excellent and one of teh strengths of their game plan. I hope the Glenelg coaching staff are aware of this.
