Footy is much more demanding on the body dude. Think about it!

Not that much more demanding than some sports where they play two matches in three days. Also think about it.

What sports would they be? Soccer? Crocket? Baseball?
I can't think of anything as tough as footy where they play more than once a week.

BDP - judging by your most recent posts in this thread, I'm wondering if there's a short, skinny man (possibly) wearing glasses, trying to get out?

Footy is a unique sport, constant physical clashes, constant running and a longer game (on the field) than just about every other game.
Even in gridiron they have a relative short season and their players spend stuff all time on the ground.
Even in England where they have mid week rugby league games occasionally they're now playing mainly developmental squads in one game or the SuperLeague changes fixtures around to ensure rests.

I'm sure thinking of soccer where teams have squads of 25 + where most players only actually play once a week or are substituted to minimise player demands....

So while the club might play two games in three days it is rare for players to do so....

Also couples witht he fact that that inferior sport (soccer) is a game with minimal body contact and goes for 30 mins less than our sport two games in a week is only half a game more than 1 of ours..

chalk and cheese really

Interesting to see you guys are going in with only one recognised ruckman in O'Hara and he is still a little underdone after coming back from injury. I know plenty of Rooster fans have been wanting Burford dropped saying he isn't doing enough so I guess as in the past, recruit Stewart will probably share the work load and I guess they can also throw Alleway in there as well.

Also interesting to see Damon White named after the papers said it was a hammy but then later reported only a "corked thigh" from the Maggies game. He may also be used in the ruck contests down in the North forward line but you would think that Centrals ruckmen Shaw and Mackenzie will be aware of his niggle and at every opportunity crash and bash into him testing his "corkie"

I am now looking forward to seeing the Doggies line up, am curious to see what changes we do end up making, apart from the very obvious IN of James Gowans. North are getting written off by plenty of people already but they still have quite a few quality players listed and I reckon it will be a lot closer than the 10 goal blow out that even some North fans have suggested !!??

Should be a great day and game regardless, so get down to the beautiful Adelaide Oval early for the first time this year and support the Ressie boys as well. Hope the rain just stays away ??!!

GO U DOGGIES...

Daniel Stewart has been rucking in all three of our games this year and has been the pick of the ruckman as well so far. "Snowy" would prefer to play at FF but he has shown a bit in the ruck. I think Stewart will start on the bench with White at FF, Alleway at CHF along with Walker as the third tall fwd and probably Matty Wright in the pocket or HF flank. We look a little more potent this week but time will tell. O'Hara should also be better for the run last week.

I think with us being unsettled with at least 3 injuries per week we will still struggle to get within 5-10 goals but who knows, North might suprise. Ladhams is a big loss being our most consistent performer to date.

Have played both sports at a relatively high level and i can honestly say i pulled up from football alot better than soccer. A game of football would keep me sore for three days mainly upper body but soccer would have me sore all week in the calfs and ankles so i totally disagree.
People who say soccer is not psyhically demanding should let a crazy 6ft 5 100 kilo Bosnian slide tackle them while running at full speed down the wing. Ill take a Bryon Pickett bump over a leg broke in two.

I played both too and tell you from a ruckman's point of view there's nothing more that takes it out of you than footy.
I was usually sore on the Wednesday from a game and sore all over.
When I played soccer I was pooped for a little while but similar to cricket only had some muscles that were sore, not my entire body.
Soccer player's fitness is incredible these days but as far as all body soreness goes, nothing compres to footy (mind you I never played Union or League).
IF I was fit, I would have no problems playing soccer every day of the week, could never do that in footy though.

Yeah gotta admit i never got anywhere near being a ruckmen and you could probably see why wedgie
But yeah i was a rover, forward pocket and played as a striker in soccer and having six foot giants kick me every weekend was sheer agony compared to playing an aussie rules game but i can see where your coming from being a ruckmen, one of the toughest positions in any sporting code IMHO.

Fair enough, probably not a good comparison then mate as in soccer I was just a defender who blased the ball forward or took out a couple of strikers!
Rucking is a harsh harsh occupation, Ive still got scars to this day from my 50 games.
