Pretty close to what i thought the line up would be didn't expect Lairdy to make many changes especially after a win. I would say M.Westoff will be the player on the bench to not play otherwise Schell may not be fit.

According to Warren Partland, Matty Westhoff will be the one to miss - apparently out for six weeks with stress fractures. However, he did admit that his source was the North Adelaide coaching staff. Are they playing porkies?

Even in gridiron they have a relative short season and their players spend stuff all time on the ground.
Even in England where they have mid week rugby league games occasionally they're now playing mainly developmental squads in one game or the SuperLeague changes fixtures around to ensure rests.

So our footballers are now softer than they were in the days of the Australian Championship where they played three games in four days at the end of seasons? Also, are they softer than Teal Cuppers who have to front up three times in a week? Even in the 1970's and 1980's where body clashes were more common and we did not have rests on the interchange bench, sides fronted up for a mid week comp as well as Saturdays.

Cheers

I'm sure thinking of soccer where teams have squads of 25 + where most players only actually play once a week or are substituted to minimise player demands....

So while the club might play two games in three days it is rare for players to do so....

Also couples witht he fact that that inferior sport (soccer) is a game with minimal body contact and goes for 30 mins less than our sport two games in a week is only half a game more than 1 of ours..

chalk and cheese really

And played on a smaller pitch
Slower pace
More stoppages
And on average there is only about of 20 minutes of actual play per half, as the clock doesn't stop ticking when the ball is not in play.

There is no way the game was as quick or that players ran nearly as much or as far as they do now. Bigger bodies now as well so the hits are harder. As for the Teal Cuppers, it is a lot easier for a 17 year old to recover quickly than 25 year olds plus. Age and wear and tear takes it's toll so to expect a 30 year old bloke to run 25km's in a game and recover as quickly as a 17 year old doing the same thing against smaller and less physical opponents is a very poor comparison.
