The idea appeals, but what happens during Royal Show week in early September?

I admit an interest as a life member of the RA&HS of SA - and I'd expect free admission on my members pass to the Members Only grandstand and to be allowed to sip my Chardonnay [or Verdelho] out of proper wine glasses while enjoying the match! 8)

Gee and we complain about dog turds on Unley, you'd hope after the show they'd get rid of all the cow pats....

Haha Hee Hee, yes very droll, very droll. Seriously, if Wayville can be developed to accomodate a footy club in a serious manner then i think it would be a good idea, I haven't been there for quite a while but there's alot of infrastructure in place, local residents know what they're getting into already and as long as any 'car show' or etc show can be totally seperate to the football field then I'm all for it. But it has to be an entity on it's own, no trotting track, no stunt cars, no motocross. FOOTY FOR FOOTY'S SAKE.

I voted that I would support footy played at Wayville. Allthough I enjoy watching footy at Thebby I've always thought that Wayville would make a decent footy venue. I don't actually see why you couldn't programme games at both venues. Wayville would be a perfect neutral venue, close enough to city etc would certainy be better than going to watch game at Unley for example.

I would vote for anywhere except unley oval. Crap ground, poor viewing, high prices, pathetic parking. Let the dogs and cats use it.

Nope. Even opposition supporters were remarking what superb condition the turf was in on the weekend. The days of the bog are long gone.

Dunno where you were standing, or sitting Ferret but due to its small size it's a magnificent view from the hill and elsewhere - certainly better than lots of other grounds such as Glenelg or Woodville. You wanna see it from top of the slippery dip!

ferret wrote:high prices,

Of what exactly? I agree beer is at the higher end of the scale if you're not a member but everything else is on a par with other grounds - nothing competes with the Westies bbq though.

A common complaint of the ignorant - there is loads of parking if you know where to look. My spot (few hundred steps to the oval) never fails but if I told you about it I would have to kill you. Again, parking around Unley is a zillion times better than grounds such as Prospect, the Parade or Woodville.

They do, but always clean up after themselves, these being a higher class of domestic animal. ;)

They had a few 9-a-side games (carnival?) circa 2000.

Minimum legal width for a league playing surface is 110 metres. A fence - to - fence width of about 118 metres (ala Norwood Oval) is about as thin as you'd want the averall arena.

Given that the existing fence - to - fence width of Wayville is about 125 metres at its narrowest (including 2 x 15 = 30 metres of track) there'd be no likelihood of any circuit racing at all without major surface remodelling (unless gopher racing comes into vogue :) )

At about 186 metres, the length of the existing grassed area at Wayville is more than adequate for league standard.

Hi there,

Look this idea is an old one, but actually a good one. If the luck goes the SANFL's way and the NT decide to play with the SANFL, not QAFL or WAFL, it's likely that it will revert back to an 18 Round Season, maybe with a revised pre-season comp again. That said, the need for extra grounds might be curtailed.

Nevertheless to have a few games per year strategically placed on the program, around when various shows are on at the pavillions, would not be a bad idea. It would need extensive consultation between the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Show, Unley Council, State Gvt. and SANFL, but if all those things were suitably worked out and a Master Plan actioned to provide State League footy at Wayville, it would be a winner. Crowd numbers do show that night games by and large do attract more people, see attendance figures at Norwood, Centrals, Adelaide Oval.

A few strategically targeted night games at Wayville, would be a plus.

Cheers,

Well seeing you mentioned the BBQ .Unley is one ground I will not buy the BBQ once bitten twice shy . A couple of years back I was sold one snag in bread for the price of two at every other oval (except westies they are cheaper).
