Club Logo's

Postby Punk Rooster » Mon May 08, 2006 9:56 pm

I'm not a big fan of the "sponsorship logo across the chest" stuff- is it time we sacrificed the SANFL logo, or club emblem & placed it there instead? I for one think the mistral detracts from North's "V" (great sponsor though- visit your nearest store to pick up your favourite Mistral products! ) Which would you prefer to lose, or your happy with things the way they are?

I misread the options, and I suggest you should add: Lose the sponsors' logo - put it on the back.

Yep I'm a traditionalist, I believe the sponsor should be on the left breast, club logo on the right as per the 1980s. Stuff this logo's accross the chest.

Hell lets go back to 1977 with the SANFL 100 logo, can you get those at the toss of the coin. That is only a joke but can others remember the 100 logo for the SANFL centenary year? The next year they brought in the sponsors logos.

FWIW Norwoods was AGC, Centrals Parabanks Shopping Centre? Glenelg = Courage brewery's sturt Andrew Eustice Datsun, I'll pass to the history gurus for the rest of the original club sponsors....

Iirc, the SANFL logo didn't appear on jumpers until 1983? As for North, no sponsorship appeared on their jumpers till 84/85- Dunlop Foams/Adelaide Pest Control. Intersting to note that the North Cheer Squad acquired the Dumlop Foams sponsorship themselves, before they sponsored the Club.

IIRC Glenelg never had the SANFL logo on their guernsey until the late 90s

I think 1983 all clubs had the SANFL logo, but in 84, they were replaced with sponsors. Not sure when they made a re-appearance on jumpers, you may be quite correct in saying late 90's

Ideally guernseys would have no sponsership on them, but a blank bill board doesn't earn any money.
Even clubs with good sources of income still require sponsership $$$$$, in Norths case, I'm sure they wouldn't want to take it off of the guernsy with all the support Robert Gerard has given the club over the years including, sponsership, loans guarantor etc. etc.
Club sponsers need the best possible exposure for their $$$$$, just as the clubs need their $$$$$.

From 1980 to 1986 Glenelg had Associated Midland on their left breast never the SANFL logo. I'm 99% sure on that from looking at budgets of the day. However if the guru's say otherwise I'll bow to their superior knowledge.

I never knew it was a "V". I just assumed it was an upside down "A".

Only recently have the club's adopted the SANFL logo. It was however, on the shorts.

Port has had the sponsor's logo on the left and the club logo on the right since at least 1980, maybe even as early as 1978/79.

In 1977, Port had the 'SANFL 100' logo but that was it.

The current guernsey's definitely look too busy.

Have to accept that sponsor's logo's on guernseys are more important to the clubs than club logo's.

Perhaps the SANFL logo and sponsor's logo should be on the guernsey.

And the club logo on the shorts (right leg, currently where the small SANFL logo is).

Tassie- I was probably basing my memory on the ones being sold in shops (they had the SANFL logo)

MP- probably a very good idea (unfortunately, we're basing it on the AFL model), I'd not like to lose the emblem, but I think some jumpers look way too "busy" at the moment, & the shorts might be a good compromise.

I think the SANFL needs to set clear guidelines on this issue- defined size & area on jumper. Oops, it doesn't involve Crows or Power, they couldn't care less...

After a small thought session, let's get rid of the SANFL logo. Do we really need it? I think the club emblem is our tradition, sponsorship $'s are very necessary, so SANFL logo- it's time to go! (provided the sponsors logo is moved to that position, & downsized accordingly. Sponsors under numbers on backs not an issue atm)

We had the "New Pink Pages" in 1979 as a sponsor. Tassie - I can't recall too many clubs having their logo on the right of their jumper (other than Port as pointed out) but you could well be right. North's has always been on the left.

The idea of the club emblem on the left is to have it over your heart.
It is what it is !!!

I think Centrals and North have got there sponsors logo's right. They are both unobtrosive and blend with the design. Port's is a shambles.

Giffo, I agree 100 percent. A few (including one jumper design) are all over the place like a mad woman's custard. In fact I think she may be the designer/ layout planner!
