Time Change for North v Port game this Saturday

Postby Wedgie » Wed May 10, 2006 6:57 pm

Everything moved earlier by 10 minutes.
Reserves now starts at 11.20am and League to start at 2.10pm.
Why?
I have no idea, surely nothing to do with the ABC coverage of the game as their coverage doesn't start until 2.30pm.

That's just dumb. If anything, it should be moved back 10 mins, so the ABC go 100% live...

It is so all the lemons that the Port supporters got from John Cahill motors aren't driving back to scumberton without headlights when it is dark........

I believe it is so the game can finish before 5pm real time and that the TV doesn't leave games before the end.

Mainly due to new time on rule when umpire calls for a bounce and quarters now going over 30 minutes regularly.
Happy to be corrected if i'm wrong.

CD

I suspect you are right

The new rules of calling time off at bounces were aimed to add about 3 minutes of stoppage time per game. It looks like it is adding about 6-7 throwing finishing times in high scoring / stretcher games right up to 5pm if not later.

At RPH we have already had a few late finishes which causes issues if we are pre-programmed.

ABC TV have a similar issue but when its 5pm someone throws a switch interstate and the SANFL telecast finishes even if the game hasn't. ie as occurred Anzac Day.

Frankly why dont we start at 2pm finish at 4.35 / 4.40pm ?

It's a shame that we are being dictated by "someone interstate".

I remember when the Crows started up and the SANFL went to a 2pm start for 1 year.

That completely stuffed my schedule up on a Saturday, although that sounds pathetic but it did. 2.20 will always be the SANFL start time.

I was bought up on that as a kid in the 70's and all I need now is reserves footy being televised live on Saturday mornings as I get ready for the game would be fantastic.

It would beat listening to a certain Advertiser Jurno on 5AA with his head so far up his ass thinking he knows everything about football and no one...yes I repeat no one would ever know as much about the game and the rules as this clown!  :x  :?

Its interesting that this certain journo has no real knowledge/insight into the footy that happened during the period when he was over in America in the early 90's. On a number of occasions i've noticed that he seems to have a vaccuum of knowledge of SA footy during this period. Latest example is article in the Advertiser last week when Tom Warhurst (story was about Warhust being owner of business in Pirie Street near where the exlosion occurred) was referred to as former Norwood player (no mention of him being a Crows player).

At least it shows that the SANFL is acknowledging that the games are going longer.

So is there any word on whether they will permanently move the starting time of the reserves back earlier?

(as discussed on page 7 of this thread http://safootycentral.com/phpBB2/viewto ... &start=120)

This really needs to be done to ensure that the full reserves game is finished by 2:10.

This is what the North CEO told me: The league should have put out a media release by now that will say all ABC games (at their request due to complaints received) from this Saturday forward will be start at 2.10p.m. so the game can be sure of finishing before the ABC go to other scheduled programs at 5.00 p.m.
