Well done Eagles what a game all Pasador in the first half then it was the Bernie Vince show after that :D
Oh and a big thanks to Sticks Philips for stirring up the Eagles when they were leaving the ground at half time not sure what he said but Passador wanted a huge piece of him ,me thinks he should be investigated by the SANFL!!

No worries Sydney dog :D
The macgregor one is only a Woodville Oval rumor .
Two AFL things for you Griffen the crows player from Centrals played in the Eagles two's today most likely due to Centrals having a bye or if i had my way he would be an eagle he played quite well .
And the Power coach was an Arms length away from me in the G/stand !!

No doubt choco was having a look to see how Chaplin, Thomson, Shattock and Rieschbieth (Reserves) played. Anyone who went to the game got an opinion on how any of those guys played today?

Eagles vs Sturt

Postby sturtpeter » Sun May 14, 2006 1:06 am

Jimmy,

I haven't posted on FootySa yet for fear of being banned:(

The half-time incident involving Phillips, the three Umpires (Sorry Cheats), had to be seen to be believed.

Sticks approached the three men in white, questioning Chambers' Report, Interpretations etc.

I would have thought he had a good case, however, in walks Mark Passador.

So close to an assault, but luckily common sense prevailed.

It had NOTHING to do with Passador.

Chambers was the guy who'd been reported.

Maybe because he's a teacher at Rostrevor but I thought Pedler's tactics left much to be desire(And I'm a fellow Catholic).

During the 3rd Quarter I became so frustrated with the inconsistencies of interpretation, I almost felt like venting a long tirade, however, it would have looked like I was a bad sport.

Eagles too good, no question, but, in all fairness, don't pay the home side dubious frees and then expect the visitors to remain composed.

I think Chaplin was not committed, DeLuca needs a few weeks in the Reserves (Ironically at the Eagles next week due to our bye), and for heaven's sake, get 166 Unley Rd up and running. We need the dough and fast.

Thank goodness the Reserves won by nearly 7 goals and JJ, Eckermann, May, Wilson and Herring all played well.

SANFL, if those Umpires you had officiating today at Woodville were of League standard then our Comp is doomed.

Great to see a big crowd at presentations - club was packed in both bar areas.

Excellent effort by the boys today plus a big win by the U19s too

EAGLES IN CONVINCING WIN

By Peter Argent

In perfect conditions for football, cool, overcast and dry the Eagles dominated the first 20 minutes of the game. But due to inaccuracy in front of goal and a late major by Sturt they found themselves only nine points up at the first break.

Two minutes into the second term Passador kicked his third after a strong mark and kick at goal to the southern end of the ground from 45 metres out. After another strong mark just outsides the goal square, Passador, the only winning forward in the game so far put through his fourth. From a turnover Bernie Vince then marked on 50 in a contest and kicked his first.

Emotions got a little heated on the half time siren after Sturt coach Brenton Phillips questioned the umpires and words were exchanged between Eagles forward Passador and the former Magarey medallist.

Stamping their authority on the game the Eagles kicked nine goals to two in the premiership quarter. The difference between the two sides at the last break had now ballooned out to a 65-point margin. Vince showed his undoubted class kicking four goals in this term alone including two in a minute at the start of the quarter.

With Paul Lindsay controlling the ruck the side ran in numbers through the middle, peppering the forwards with plenty of opportunities. Travis Oakley, Matthew Cooper, Hayden Skipworth, Tim Inkster and David Westbrook all played a part towards the Eagles dominance.

Vince’s six goal best on ground effort included 37 possessions, whilst Cicolella also got ball poisoning. Luke Powell, Matthew Cooper, Paul Lindsay, Mark McKenzie and Mark Passador were among a host of top players for the side which were too powerful in all aspects of the game for their opponents.

Congratulations must go to 16 year old first gamer Sam Fairclough. Solidly built, he entered the game late in the first quarter and picked up a couple of clean touches in the second term. This showed he could handle the adjustment in pace and intensity from the lower grades.

Eagles 3.5 6.5 15.9 20.11 (131) defeated Sturt 2.2 3.3 5.4 9.6 (60)

Goal kickers – Vince 6, Passador 5, Treeby 2, Powell 1, Cooper 1, Oakley 1, Skipworth 1, Inkster 1, Westbrook 1, Lindsay 1

Best – Vince, Lindsay, Cicolella, Shattock, Powell, Passador, McKenzie, Treeby

Reserves
Eagles 2.0 6.4 8.5 12.7 (79) lost to Sturt 4.3 5.5 10.10 16.15 (111)

U/19s
Eagles 5.0 8.7 10.14 17.17 (119) defeated Sturt 2.4 3.7 5.9 6.9(45)

U/17s
Eagles 2.1 6.3 11.4 14.11 (95) lost to Sturt 6.1 9.3 14.4 16.5 (101)

Jimmy, we were bloody awful today, the Eagles were too good, smashed us around the midfield and the rucks
our skill errors were bloody atrocious, I dont know how many times a player of Colreavys ability missed the target
and he wasnt on his own, many targets missed and many simple marks dropped
maybe the pressure applied by the Eagles, or at least the implied pressure

I thought Cooper had a good game against his old club

good wins today to the ressies and the U17's :D

The umpiring in no way favoured the Eagles. In the first half, Sturt got the better of the umpiring IMHO. Chambers was reported for head-butting Pedler. Yes, he did make contact. And yes, Chambers was generally the instigator of the niggles. It appeared all over the ground Sturt were trying to play the man. Even had Curtis pushing into our runner when he was delivering a message. Fortunately our runner was composed enough to not make a big deal out of the situation. Could have got ugly.

Sturt were a genuine rabble today. I'd be surprised if they beat anyone else except West for the remainder of the year. The only player I thought could hold their head high was Tim Weatherald. Thought he played a gutsy and fair game and tried hard all day.

Best players for the Eagles I thought were Cicolella, Vince and Inkster.

Was impressed with Cooper and Grocke seems fairly composed at Centre Half Back after giving little up forward. Frewen, Hall and Angus were named the best three players in the Reserves. All key position backmen. I would like to see Angus in the league team next week, because I think McKenzie is wasted back there for a whole game, plus we need more height. Pedler also has struggled a bit at full back IMO.

Sturt vs Eagles

Postby sturtpeter » Sun May 14, 2006 2:11 am

Aerie, We were obviously at different games.

Even some of the Eagles' fans in the smaller stand were shaking their heads in disbelief at the lack of consistency in the holding the ball/ holding the man interpretations. By the way, what was the free kick count in the 3rd Term after Phillip's objections???

I think you'll find 3-1 in the Eagles' favour.

I agree with what you have said Aerie and I am convinced Grocke plays better in the backlines. Hall didnt do much in the 2's I still think he is a few weeks away ,Frewen should play next week IMHO, and Angus he keeps getting better he played down back and up forward .
Who will be back up ruckman next week if dabroski is injured Robberts or the taller Jacobson(i think thats his name )who also can play up forward saw him kick an unbelieve goal in the 2's against the doggies . And what does bolton need to do to get a game !!
Cicolella I knew he was going to have a great game first quarter no one manned up on him either they were that bad sturt or had not rated him .

Now onto Philips again isnt the captain the only one allowed to approach the umpires ? And why would you approach the whole other team ,no wonder the blues fans online want him gone !

Someone must have spiked the hot chips. Cicca is the prince of seagulls.

Well done Eagles. That was a real heartbreaker after being in touch for the first half. Bloody Cooper hadn't had a kick for Sturt in 2 years and he was obviously out for a bit of revenge. When he switched from no.2 to his trademark 41 at half time he went up a gear, figuratively speaking of course. Good on you Coops.

You are clearly mad. While I think some of the crybabies on the hill were a little bit too upset about the decisions (we certainly deserved to be a bit behind in the free kick count making as many stuff ups as we did), 18-8 does tell a story. The report was a farce, I've seen better acting from Bec Hewitt.

How did he approach the whole other team? He was talking one-on-one with the umpire in a very restrained way, as is his right, when Passador (I think) barges in and shoots his mouth off. There was no fracas until he did that. Which online fans want Sticks gone anyway? That's just muckraking, especially ironic considering the thread Fuller hangs by. Questioning your coaches' decisions does not equate to a sacking
