If Port finished last which i accept (as a Port supporter) is a fair chance, i dont think they'll go for Gibbs. Apparently theres a young WA forward whos tipped by most to go at the first pick, and i also reckon that Port would probably go for Sellar before Gibbs (also a Glenelg player i know so that would prob be just as good an outcome for the Bays). The other strong likelihood is that Port finished 2nd or 3rd to last in which case Gibbs could be the best pick available at that time so he could be picked up by Port in that instance.

First of all, long way to go yet before you can start handing out draft picks.(Although we will have an early one)

Secondly,I am yet to see Bryce Gibbs, but from all accounts he must be some sort of Gary Ablett/Nathan Buckley clone? Turn it up you blokes,he's 16,playing SANFL,hardly setting the world on fire, why not put some more pressure on him..
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Booney - I think you should have a good look at Gibbs - he has well and truly made his mark at SANFL league level and would be one of the rare drafted players that could walk right into a AFL team and not be "intimidated". Have a look at Sellar while you at it - he goes very well too.

Booney, I agree with you it is not point getting excited about every young kid who could get drafted this year.

The exception with Bryce is that he is very composed and aware on a footy field in the same way the Wanganeen was in 1990. He has a great ability (far better than your average 17 yo) to think his way through traffic and hit a target. He can play "tall" to an extent i.e. is good over head. Theya re the thigs that struck me most when I watched him against North three weeks ago.

This is not to say the kid is going to be a 200 game + AFL player but trust me this kid has all toys already.

At the NTIS I worked with (not suggesting that I was even 0.01% responsible for them getting drafted) a top 5 draft pick in 2002 (Jarred Brennan) and 2004 (Ritchie Tambling) and this kid can hold his own with them.

Hey Ecky do you keep effective disposal stats at the bay (i.e. hit the target vs missed the target) what are Bryce's like? It didn't look like he missed too many against North. You can give up his stats mate as it is not likely that any SANFL club is going to be worried about them next year.....curse you AFL and your father-son rule shinanigans....

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

If Port had the choice between Gibbs and the guy from WA, wouldnt they chose Gibbs so he doesnt get home sick eg. Carr.

A few points. Port have shown in the past that they dont care where a player is from. Even when we got burned by Nick Stevens, our first pick was a Victorian that year. 17 players from originally outside SA (not including P Burgoyne either). 3 of our 4 rookies are from outside the state too. Crows have 11 (not including Trent Hentschel).

Bryce to me looks like a young James Hird. I think he will grow into that sort 'everywhere' player that can star whereever he plays.

Dont know about the WA kid, but James Sellar looks the good for a Lade/Ottens type Forward/Ruck. Probably needs to grow another couple of centremetres if he is to become a true AFL ruck option (198cm would be ideal).

Port have a number of young midfielders on the list...also a few tall forwards too. Either one would be very handy. Though I'd pick Bryce just to piss off his father. Which leads to another point...

If Bryce was drafted to Port and after the tantrum Ross threw a few years back, would Bryce/Ross refuse to play for the club?

Williams would prolly go with Gibbs, he loves the kid, stated couple of years ago he is the best 15yo footballer he'd ever seen. Now end of season is a long way away and other clubs final placings are out of Port's hands but one would think Port will be between 10-14th.

Gumbelton is the WA kid ur on about, and a VERY good kid at that. Named in the WAFL state squad, tho if Sellar was playing in the WAFL he'd be there too. Sellar is better around the ground than Gumbleton but Gumbleton is prolly better at playing forward. Both are top notch and IMO the best two KPP in the draft. Hansen is the best from VIC, and if a VIC club gets 1st pick they might go for him, if they going home factor worries them. But no matter which kid a clubs gets they are getting a star. This draft is fantastic.

Gibbs is like a cross between Hird/Buckley with a bit of Hayes thrown in.
Sellar is like a Ottens/Pavlich/Salmon type, just needs to grow a tad more, currently 197cm but hopefully hits 199-200.

With everyone ie Port /Essendon/Carlton all fighting for the three above mentioned players does that leave Sam Fairclough to be picked up by the crows ?

Macca19 - If Gibbs is drafted he can't refuse to go to the club that drafts him, or he will be fined. He could refuse an offer from a club if he was a father/son selection but not in the draft.

The only decent players at the Power either came from Glenelg or Interstate, they might as well as recruit a few more.

From a westies supporter

Seen the gay bays twice this year

of the two players sellar excites me more as well, he looks a super talent, not taking anything away from gibbs and the lad hurley at sturts and young edwards at prossie look very good as well

Douglas looks like he has a super future as well, he can play, mark & kick,,,, in 1983 we had a player or two at westies that could do that as well. Now its just memories and lets roll on to 2007, only hope (Does the spoon count as silverware)

Dasher, if ever a clubs performance belonged down Oxford St in Sydney it was your clubs last Saturday.

I think the term Gay Westies is a far more appropriate literary use of English language than the term "gay bays"

May I respectfully suggest that their is a fair bit of "buggarising" happening in your adminstration at the minute towards your clubs on-field performances.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

You must be mistaken, only one side turned up on Saturday,,, it was Glenelg,,, Westies didnt turn up to play because they were busy auditioning for Dancing With Duds, a new program on Channel 31 for footballers that never made it.

We are miles of the pace,, the gay bays is an affectionate term,, the bays is my secong favourite side, as i said i have watched them twice this year and the other was against north adelaide which was the best game i have seen this year including AFL rubbish which we are being dished up.

Two years ago against West i saw a lad play that was super impressive against westies at the bay, the crows listed Josh Krueger, saw him Saturday and been look out for him, what has happened to his form , i know he has had injuries but the day at the bay in 2004 or 03 i thought who was this kid?????
