ENGLAND vs NEW ZEALAND - FIRST TEST
Lunch Day Two

New Zealand 8/260 (82 overs)
JM How c +Ambrose b Anderson 7
AJ Redmond c Cook b Anderson 0 (on debut)
JAH Marshall c Strauss b Braod 24
LRPL Taylor c Collingwood b Broad 19
+BB McCullum b Panesar 97
DR Flynn b Anderson 9
JDP Oram c Strauss b Sidebottom
*DL Vettori not out 31
KD Mills b Sidebottom 10
TG Southee not out 1

RJ Sidebottom 2/53
JM Anderson 3/51
SCJ Broad 2/85
PD Collingwood 0/11
MS Panesar 1/30

New Zealand 2/52 (30 overs) in the session and wouldve been disappointed that they lost their 8th wicket in the penultimate over before lunch, but would be happy to add more runs to their total. The weather looks a bit better today and a full days play is expected, but the forecast for tomorrow is far from hopeful interms of an uniterupted day.

The Kiwis are terrible but still managed 277 in very bowler friendly conditions. Says a lot about the quality of the Poms bowling attack. Still the Kiwi's bowling is worse and the Poms should have little trouble making a big score.

I feel for Vettori and McCullum who are world class players stuck in such a crap side. Vetorri would be picked in any other countries side and McCullum would as well except for Australia. Pity the rest of their side is so awful.

Looks like the Kiwis will not have to worry above Flintoff in this series as he probably wont be fit to return until the test series vs South Africa

McCullum is much better than Brad Haddin..............

I would say that Haddin has him covered. Sure, that for NZ he bats out of position at 5 and with their top order he faces the new ball often but his performances are not that good...he is a highlight machine yes (ODI s/rate of 88.9, T20I s/rate of 121.54), but is far from a consistent Test cricketer let alone the best wicketkeeper batsmen in the world.
Test average of 30.93 (2 hundred vs Bangladesh and Zimbabwe & 8 fifties)
First Class average of 32.92 (6 hundreds & 19 fifties)
ODI average of 27.46 (0 hundreds, 12 fifties

HADDIN
First Class average of 41.38 (10 hundreds & 31 fifties)
SANGAKKARA
Test average of 55.19 (16 hundreds & 25 fifties)
First Class average of 45.13 (23 hundreds & 49 fifties)
AMBROSE
First Class average of 35.96 (6 hundreds & 23 fifties)

Ive got McCullum in a battle with Ambrose just to be on the podeum...nowhere near its top

Okay thats fair enough, I haven't looked at the statistics before but i suppose the statistics speak for themselves.

I suppose he isn't that great, considering Dizzy made a double ton against Bangladesh aswell.............

NZ 0/40 trailing England by two runs @ stumps day four.

A century to Vaughan saved the poms a55es from a poor showing by the rest of the middle order after a strong opening partnership from Cook & Strauss.

Daniel Vettori finished with 5/69, including the wicket of Vaughan. He is a superstar of world cricket and the best spinner going around (i don't count Murali as a 'bowler') right now.

Agree with that. Not only is Vetorri a wonderful bowler but his batting has become really good a well. The first half of his career he averaged around 20 and the last half he has averaged almost 40. Add to that he is a really good captain and you have one of the finest cricketers in the world.

New Zealand really suffered in the first thirty overs when the ball was wet, so making it hard for Vettori to bowl.

Yes he does play in a bad side but that does not detract from how good a player he is. Best spin bowler in the world by quite some way.
