I have seen in the past a third player come over the top but on the weekend i was squashed between two henly players that were both contesting the ball up i had no chance what so ever of getting to the ball.![]()
When i looked at the umpire he said to me that if that team wanted they could have three up i reckon this is crap but im probably wrong. Also in the game there was clearly a point scored because the ball bounced off the goal post then went through for a goal the goal umpire was in the wrong the field umpire seen this but said he could not over rule the goal umpire i thought he could. Probably wrong again. Does anyone know the answers to these questions.

Went through both Amateur League rules and the Laws Of Australian Football and could find no reference to a Bounce or Ball up in general play. By that I assume as many players as they like can contest the Ruck. Don't need to go back to Junior Rules where the Umpire picks two players to contest.

Most AFL teams use it as a tactic called "third man up"
