Only the very young think age explains anything. [Lots of young people voted for John Howard, for example.]
My values were as different from the average in the late 1970s as they are now. I remember being called a "fascist" for positive comments about Mal Fraser, who was left wing of Bob Hawke, looking at it in retrospect. And I copped flack for buying property in my 20s while my peers "partied" in the style of the time.

Does Psyber remind anyone else of Grandpa Simpson?

One way to get rid of them is to tell 'em stories that dont go anywhere. Like the time we went over to shelbyville during the war, I wore an onion on my belt....which was the style at the time...you couldnt get those white ones, you could only get those big yellow ones.................now where was I........oh yeah, the important thing was I was wearing an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time, you couldnt get those... I was playing too in that case, Booney. Did you take me seriously? Monty runs a nuclear power plant remember!? And he tried to hold the town to ransom for sunlight. That was the connection, but water seemed appropriate for Adelaide. I don't really care one way or the other about the issue I set up there - it was just a fun idea to fit the role cast for me for the moment, and to make that connection which also poked fun at my actual cautiously pro-nuclear position.

I am serious though when I see people espousing risky drinking, and as someone with medical training I do think it would be irresponsible of me to not raise the issue of caution if it appears they may not be joking in doing so.

I know some people will then attack me for posting anything that confronts them with the risks they are taking. That's what happens when people are bothered by things they don't want to think about - they want to make it go away.
