Here I am...

Been a long day, first opportunity just no to get on line...

Played golf in Murray Bridge this morning and didn't get home til 5pm (very slow round) and the missus has only just got off the computer now, she's been doing some work project on my laptop... :( :?

It's interesting to read that my "proportions" are used as measuring sticks on here for other posters... !!??

I guess i can understand, I like to cover all details as you have seen in my match reviews in the past...

Won't be able to go into as much detail in future posts now I am helping out with LifeFM's coverage and around the grounds scores. 8)

Why were you wondering where I was Dutchy, looking for another online argument !!?? Just kidding mate....

Well done once again to the Bays for their win on the weekend, interesting to read on Centrals forum that the official club statisicians have reported that the free kick count was not actually 32 to 16 in favour of the Bays, but in actual fact was more like 43 - 22....

Now yes, many Dogs fans are complaining as bias umpiring, and while yes, I think there were way too many questionable frees in Glenelg's favour, the concerning fact for me is that there were 65 bloody free kicks paid in the game !!?? Is that an all time record, for god sake ???

It's so frustrating when the umpires want to overpolice the game and take away from the quality of the game. I mean the umpiring didn't have any massive say in the final result, but that many frees paid in 1 game is farsical. I remember an early game in the year when I reckon there was only something like 25 frees paid TOTAL for the game and it was so much more free flowing and not frustrating to watch from a fans point of view.

COLIN ROWSTON, TONY DEY AND CHRIS CAREY SHOULD NOT BE PAID FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE THIS WEEK AND DESERVE TO BE DROPPED TO THE RESERVES... I HOPE YOU READ THIS SHANE HARRIS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED !!??

GO U DOGGIES...

Didn't know the laws of Australian football said umpires are suspposed to ensure an even free kick count at the end of the game?

Does anyone know laws 15.5 (c) and 16.7 (b) and how they were correctly applied in the last quarter yesterday....

Umpires don't make the laws but they do get counselled if they don't enforce them. One umpire correctly applied these yesterday.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

LOL@Big Phil. Your side's lack of accountability cost you that win, not the umpires. Here's a concept...try and get to the footy first, and you'll be in line for earning more frees.
Is 2009 the year of the Tiger?

Tas & TB, you blokes need to go do a comprehension course - Philby was complaining about the number of free kicks paid in the game and not that the umpires cost Centrals the game. Not sure anyone could argue that 65 free kicks should have been paid in that game.

our stats total as similar for the free kick count- but bearing in mind the stats we take include teh 25m penalties/ out on the fulls which arent included in the official frees for and against.

there wasnt a great deal of frees paid that werent there though as it was a very physical contest and at times quite undisciplined, especially from centrals in the first 3 quarters and us in the last.

i would prefer those umpires tahn teh jokers that were out in the reserves anyway- there was one instance where the centrals bloke was tackled whilst bouncing the ball and not pinged.

Its only coincidence that my post appears after Big Phils, my response is a general observation to some of the bleating by supporters on this site about decision paid in that match and in general. I endorse TBs comments 100% the modern game of Australian football rewards teams theat get first to teh footy - like we did on Saturday and in last years Elimination final.

The most pertinant question I would have thought is why the free kicks were paid and not how many.

Is it true Kris Grant has done a JArs and got himself reported???

So you think 65 free kicks sounds right for that game on Saturday?

I would think most of the people that have posted here have made that comment about being first to the ball. There have been minimal claims from supporters suggesting that the umpires cost Centrals the match or momentum.

so just because there are a lot of free kicks in the first half of a game do you think that teh umps should stop awarding them in the 2nd half just because teh number might be to big- in a game where there were lots of contests it inevitable there will also be lots of infringements, as i said a fair number of these frees were for 25m penalties and out on the fulls

WOW....

Dutchy and I actually see eye to eye on something, well done mate

As for the other posters who want to berate my complaining of the umpires and mentioning that it was the sole reason why my side got beaten by a better side on the day...

READ BACK THROUGH MY PREVIOUS COUPLE OF POSTS PEOPLE... :?

On numerous occassions I mentioned that, although very dissapointing and over umpired, the very poor display from the men in white on the weekend was not the reason my side lost...

I acknowledged, agreed, congratulated and confirmed that Centrals were beaten by a far better Glenelg outfit on the day and if happened to catch my "Around The Grounds" review with LifeFM on the weekend, you would have heard me say no end of times that Centrals looked flat, very did-interested and were absolutely smashed in the middle. Yes I made mention of the very very poor standard of officiating my Rowston and Dey in particuar but it seems to me that this is the mjority opinion anyway, from fans of both sides...

I think those Bays fans wanting to question my opinions of the weekend's game and the level of officiating should enjoy the bloody win, be thankful that in general, the poor umpiring favoured your side and look forward to your big blockbuster with the Double Blues this weekend...

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...

P.S - Thanks to those posters who agreed with me and stuck up for what I said AND didn't say, including my nemisis at times, DUTCHY !!?? Cheers fellas...

Yes or No was all I was after.

I think they awarded too many free kicks for the whole game, nothing to do with evening anything up. The game was over umpired.

Postby doggies4eva » Mon Jun 23, 2008 12:18 pm

To avoid sounding like sour grapes, I would like to start by saying that Glenelg deserved to win as they wanted the ball more for most of the game.

The umpiring was over technical and at times ludicrous. The free paid to McConnel 40 metres out was because he got a hip and shoulder bump - admittedly from 2 palyers one on each side but where in the rules is that not allowed? The 50 metre penalty against Thomas after the ump backed into Thomas was a joke and may well have contributed to his frustration and report soon after after the ump failed to give him a free when he was being held down without the ball. There were a number of other dubious and soft frees which resulted in either scores or a slowing up of the play. All in all an incompetant display of umpiring.
We used to be good :-(
