Adelaide golf courses

Postby westozfalcon » Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:41 pm

Can anyone recommend any Adelaide public golf courses to have a midweek game at?
Basically somewhere that has nice surrounds and reasonable green fees.

I'm staying in the city for a few days after a business trip next month and am planning to take a few clubs and have a hit somewhere.

I'm only a hacker but North Adelaide and the West Beach Course (name escapes me) are reasonable courses and green fees around the $20-$25 mark.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Adelaide Shores is the name with two courses to choose from. the Pro shop is run by Pete Ormsby the father of current Professional on the European tour Wade.

cant say i enjoy Thaxted that much MW, but the last time i played there was st pats about 6 yrs ago on a 40degree day!!!! maybe i should give it another go.

Belair, used to play comp up there and its ok, not far from the city, just watch out for skippy on the 17th green!

depending on how far you wanna go Mt Lofty is nice.

ADELAIDE SHORES - is it correct that they changed the south course par 72?????

For anyone living in the city do yourself a favour and go for an hours drive out of the city, courses are much better, no crowds and make a day of it...suggestions -

Lady Bay (Brilliant)
McCracken
Fleurieu
Willunga
Murray Bridge
Mt Barker
Gawler
Tanunda
South Lakes

All course that sh!t all over North Adelaide and the Pat

My pet hate in golf, 5 & 1/2 hour rounds waiting 10 minutes for every shot behind hackers (dont mind hackers just dont like how slow they play)

McCracken is my fav. The links set up suits my slice, except for the second

Used to play Belair a fair bit, only as it was a 5 minute drive from home.

My next door neighbour has the key for the back gate at Kooey ! May have to pinch it and let
myself in for a quick "freebie" round on the holes near my joint !
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

Lady Bay is brilliant, you can add Echunga to that list.Great on a cold morning when you can kick the dew off the grass.

For metro courses, especially on a weekend,do not go to North Adelaide or Adelaide Shores.Head out of the CBD as Dutchy has suggested.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Certainly sounds like some of the courses outside the City area are worth the drive.

Yeah I've gotta agree that slow play is a scourge on golf and seems to be more and more prevalent. Golf's for players of all levels to enjoy. Even a group of 4 who all struggle to break 120 can keep things moving by sticking to basic course etiquette!

Depends where you are staying and your transport options but I'd suggest North Adelaide South Course or Belair if you are looking for the picturesque experience.
