SA Best Player

Was anyone else surprised that Schell was awarded the Fos Williams medal for SA's best?
I would have thought that either Borlase or Campbell would have won this. Both worked very hard to get to ball into Schell's area.
Yes Schell did kick 6 goals but the 2 Norwood guys put in very hard all night.

I did not see the game so it is difficult to make comment

from a snap shot, it was a close game, 14 goals to 12 and Schell kicked almost half the score for the winning side, so it could be argued that he was the winning difference.......

I am not sure how hard he had to work for his goals, if all his work was lace out, no pressure, easy shots, you may have a valid point, but if he had to win a lot of contested footy, then 6 goals is a good return in a big match and it could be argued that he deserved the medal

Schell was my selection- not saying I'm right or wrong, but he was my pick, & not surprised he got it.

I would have tossed up between Campbell and Inkster. But Im OK with Schell getting the medal too. Put it this way - the way the structure of the team panned out if Schell had a bad night SA would have been thumped. There was just no other tall option in the forward line.

After watching the game I would have picked Schell as BOG. The reason - we had a few mid-fielders who were good with Borlase probably the pick but in a relatively low scoring game Schell stood out particularly early when goals were hard to come by. His leading and marking were first class and he topped it off with straight kicking. He also gave away a couple of goals in the second half bringing his fellow forwards into it.
We used to be good :-(

I think it could have gone to one of Schell, Borlace, Inkster, Campbell or even Archee. Given it was a hard night to kick goals I had no problem with Schell getting it.

Yeh..i'll probably concede...6 out of 12 goals was a good effort. Would he have played if Gill & Chambers were available ?
If we had Gill we would have won easily I think...Dean Howard is a great competitor but not a CHF.
Not a bad game of footy...pity there weren't more people there to create a bit of atmosphere.
The game should have been of Sunday arvo...probably would have got at least 10,000.

You really think so? I wasn't surprised at the crowd number. I really think had they played it on a Sunday they would have got a small crowd and we would be sayign they should have played it Friday night.

Play the game on Sunday (not competing with Crows/Power), gold coin donation, & get your 10,000...

Sunday would have got a lot more, no Crows or Power game, would have been 4 more from my household there if it was on Sunday.
I know dozens more that would have gone and I don't know one less that went Friday and wouldn't have gone on the Sunday.
Adelaide Oval hasn't got a decent crowd on a Friday night in the colder months for a long time.
I honestly wonder what the powers that be at the SANFL have going through their minds at times.

I was the only one from my family that attended on Friday night as it was too cold to take a 2 and 4 year old. ( Although they wanted to go. ) And well the wife was rugged up by 5.30 pm.

So the SANFL lost 3 from me.

I thought Schell aswell, he was my initial choice.

Could easily have been others, but with the scores what they were his 6 goals were the real difference.
