Man who had confrontation with Laidley has died

The man who had a confrontation with North coach Dean Laidley yesterday apparently ended his own life under a train at 1am this morning. Terrible news for all concerned. Laidley invited the fan to come into the rooms to see how much his Roos were hurting after the loss to the Saints after the gentlemen had spent the day venting his frustration within earshot of the North coach.

Poor bugger.

The fellow mouthed something but didn't change his demeanour when Laidley came back at him.
Even when Laidley had moved onto the ground, the guy still seemed somewhat passive.
Very strange and ultimately very sad.

Suicide. Family have said there were many other problems and are not blaming his death on the incident at the footy.

Laidley referred to him being intoxicated, but I don't think he elaborated on this BB.
Mind you,I only saw a soundbite of Laidley's press conference so I hope Laidley didn't
go overboard.

I can vouch for the fact having watched the Laidley press conference on the web that he didn't harp on the fact the fan may have been "drunk" he emphasised the point twice that he merely wanted the fan to come on down and see how much teh players and officials hurt too. The 1st 2 questions from the journo's were about the issue and Laidley played it very much with a straight bat, emphasisng the previous point, not the fact he may have been drunk.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

we all know that the junk yard dog at times can be an angry man but I have watched the press conference and to his credit he was pretty balanced with his answers.........

Im assuming if the guy was intoxicated at 5.00pm after the game, how bad would he have been at 1.00am, maybe he just stumbled and fell..... I had a mte three years ago did the same thing, walking home from the pub totally smashed and was walking along side the road, lost balanced and stumbled in front of a car and died, it does happen

His family has said that the confrontation with Laidley wasn't the reason for
the man's suicide, and that he had other issues.
Might have been the straw that broke the camel's back though.

There is no way you can link what laidley did to the decision for someone to take his own life, as unfortuanate as it is he made his own decision.

Papers today say that the man wasn't drunk and that's why security didn't eject him from the ground...

Had a very flat look on his face for some one in his spot when Laidley questioned him, didn't he? If you were having a crack at the coach and he challenged you,the passion running in your veins would fire you up and no doubt many of us would have taken Laidleys invitation.

Very sad state of affairs,I am sure Laidley will be feeling a little poorly over the incident, not as it seems he has any reason to.

No-ones to blame for what happened, only the problems that the person had. We all have problems.
