Eagles wearing old guernseys

Postby Wedgie » Tue May 30, 2006 7:15 pm

Good to see that the Eagles are going to be wearing their Torrens guernseys against Glenelg at Therbarton and their Woodville guernseys against North at Woodville.
It didn't say but I assume it will be the guernseys worn by the respective clubs just before they merged.

Im just glad we're playing Woodville and not Torrens!

The next time the Dogs and Eagles play they should wear retrospective jumpers against each other, of course having the Eagles in 1964 Warriors/Peckers heritage jumpers.

I'd love to see the 60s jumper with the big gold eagle on the chest. That jumper was a beauty.

My understanding as the club explained it to me

Home match at Thebarton - June 17th v Glenelg
- Will wear West Torrens Guernsey from last 1950's
- the one with the old swooping Eagles on it

Last Home Match @ Woodville in 2006 - Sept 3 v Port
- Will wear Woodville Guernsey from first league game in 1964
- It was a similar design to the Warriors jumper without the logo ie green yoke, rest in yellow.

Great initiative by the club

Really? I thought they were going to go with the old blue with gold sash thing.

Either way, will they be put up for sale? Would love some more memorabilia for my collection.

As Phil has stated and was announced at the start of the year to the members at Members Night - This year we are honouring the history of the two clubs that were the basis of our foundation. Members were also shown the designs for the full outfits on that night.

At the home match we are playing at Thebarton we will wear the 1955 West Torrens big golden Eagle jumper - when this jumper was first worn.

The Woodville home game will be the 1964 jumper of the Woodville FC - the first Woodville jumper worn in league footy.

Lots of special events around these two games - more announcements to follow - will keep all up to date over next few weeks

West Torrens day at Thebarton June 17th V Glenelg
Woodville day at Woodville August 12th V North Adelaide

I hope they have the Torrens jumpers for sale. Would definitely buy one and I'm glad they are wearing the one with the Eagle on the chest. That jumper is the one club legends such as Bob Hank and Lindsay Head wore and it also links in with our current, more modern guernsey. Even though it feels a bit strange, I am glad the club will wear the old Woodville jumper against North and I'm glad the club is recognising our shared history which extends back a lot further than 1991! I was always annoyed in 1997 when the club didn't recognise the 100th Anniversary of West Torrens.

As North have had a heritage round for the last two years, I hope we come to the party for the Eagles game in the Woodville guernseys and wear the 60's "V to the shoulders" jumper that we wore against them in their first league game. Might even get Don Lindner out to play at Centre Half Forward. Don't laugh! He's still fit enough. :D

I'll be at both games, the first to watch Ian Jnr play mini league at 1/2 time, the 2nd to watch North. Like you LL, I'd like to see North wear the '60's top, Woodvilles first league game was against North so it would be fitting.

This is great stuff. Hopefully the weather will be ok and it will bring out a lot of older Torrens and Woodville supporters and players to the games.

It's good to have these type of games where you go and wear old jumpers from the club's history. I won't be there, as I will be with the 17's/19's.

CD ... Is there any reason why this initiative couldn't be implemented on a yearly basis? I'm not an Eagles fan, but as a SANFL fan who remembers watching my team against both clubs I think it's a great idea!!

I like the idea of heritage rounds and maybe the SANFL can show the AFL how to do it properly. I would like to see the Doggies in the old '70s guernsey (blue with red and white vee), especially with so many kids in the team today whose old man played in that jumper, ie; Cochrane's, Thomas, Wilson, Norsworthy to name a few. Just don't suggest that they wear the white one though.
