Saw 5 Mins of the B's on Saturday and I saw
a) OF attempt to elbow a 16 yo in the head about 3 seconds after he kicked the ball.
b) OF punch someone in the head 50m off the ball (0 weeks)
c) CF King hit someone in the face (No Report) (the player had to leave the field with blood streaming from his face)
d) CF kick someone in the head while they were on the ground. (2 weeks)

And all the above incidents were 'allegedly' seen by the reserve umpire Pappy.

The penalties are a disgrace.

It wasn't all bad, their A's were a lot better, they seemed pretty hard at it all day and at times they really took it up to Waybacks physically but fairly.

Brian seems to be doing a good job in heading them in the right direction but if they are really serious about turning their entire club around perhaps they should take a good hard look at their B Grade coach. His behaviour on Saturday was disgraceful and I can see where his 2 players got it from.

Biggle quote "If we put our full side on the park next week we have a chance of grabbing some points".[/quote]
How many points do you think biggles?
OF has delighted many a person with his mercurail skills in the late 80s and into the early 90s. Eyre Peninsula player with uncanny skills, it was a pleasure to see him in his prime. But yeah if he is being dirty he should give it away. Wouldnt he be better setting a good example. Their B grade coach is a good bloke but gets too fired up on occasions.

$21 not a bad bet might take that up yet ins for Bostons S Whillas L Miller M Picket M Lanzafame JJ out suspension Lydeamore back in 3 weeks starting to get some good players consistently on the track. I have been asked to omit 4 of the best from the colts to play A Grade only. Big call from the ram but we are going all out to win this senior game so see what Thurs training brings. As Stated every time we play guys in two games we give away 3 or four goals only problem is if you take Doorwood Paton Schuman and Saunders out of the colts it leaves a huge hole for me to fill against the best juniors in the league. My question is is it worth it this year or should we be giving the juniors game preference. Hard call personally I want the kids to play in the colts The ram wants to grab a win whats more important?? Any thoughts

It's a game that the 17's can't win, and an A Grade game the head coach believes they can....If the kids are up to it and want to, play em at the highest level. Worked for Rangers in 04 and us last year. Some supporters (parents in particular) will no doubt complain, but the club has to come firt...first chance to legitimally win in A Grade for how many years?.....no brainer actually.

Comments from Eski on this matter would be handy.

biggles - play the kids up buddy - if they r keen........for the betterment of your Under 17's side - they will gain a lot more out of the League game and possibly a win for the Club at that level......they will be better players when they come back down......play the kids in the Under 17's when you can and need to win the game - to secure a final berth - but in games you know you can win (without those kids...eg say Tasmans) in the Under 17's or you know u cant win - play them up

Biggles - this is an emotional issue and has affected most clubs at some stage.
Personally I would play them in the 17's. Reasons being :
1) This is their last year to play with their mates
2) Of minor importance to some however by not playing them you could rob a lad of Assoc B&F votes and potentially a medal. My comments earlier this week about kids relishing praise and accolades is relevant here.
3) They are young enough and fit enough to play both.
4) Possibly play them for 3 quarters in the 17's only

Western Bulldogs 2 years ago let a lad who was picked in their senior team play for his school as they thought it was important enough for him personally. If that sort of attitude is good enough for an AFL side ???? - why not in Pt Lincoln.

I believe the Coaches courses that are conducted strongly recommend that lads play in their U17 age group.

Good luck and I'm sure you will make the right decision

as most of us have been in this situation and probably me and people like cove07 more recently, we ALWAYS used to put in at least 3 quaters of u/17 first then come off at 3/4 time and get in and warm up with the A's, like steiger said they should be young and fit enough to do this, sometimes the enthusiam of the u/17 who have just finished playing can kickstart the A graders who are sometimes less than motivated - just my experience anyway!

Can tell you that the philosophy of playing 3/4's in the 17's and then fronting up for a 'must win' A grade has hairs on it. Cost us a game last year against Tasmans....Totally different if the kid is going to be chosen as 21'st man, but if they are in your best 18, and important to your sides chances then, as I said, it is a no brainer. There are plenty of other consideration that MAY need to be taken into account, not the least being where the kid and his family wants to play.
Don't forget, the club is ultimately judged by it's A grade performance and the person entrusted with that performance is the senior coach....He calls the shots.

Marble Range's four most recent premierships have all shared a common trait. At least one u/17 has played in all of them!! I remember hearing someone say as we trudged off after last years prelim loss 'We didn't have the colt'. It's just a Ranger superstition, but food for thought. I actually think Alton Dorward was only 16 in the 82 flag and Graham Parker may have still been colts in 78 so you could probably make it our last 6!! (not 100% sure with Parks)

If the kids are good enough and keen they play A grade every time. Sorry steiger but can't agree with your comments at all. The A grade comes first and the tigers really need some results, not wins neccessarly, but just to show some improvement week in week out. The kids will give you a great contest every time.

They maybe fit enough to play both grades, but how many times you pick a kid in starting 18 for A grade and they get hurt in 17's? Weekly. Leaves nothing but hassles trying to settle most important side for the club.

Move on from playing with your mates. Snowy and Levi had the same issue with us in 04, but when they realised that half the team was year or so older than them it was easy transition for them.

It benefits the player himself to play at higher level.

If you are playing for trophies (individual) playing for all the wrong reasons.

This year the same at the Gary, Luke Harder should never play u17 football again, he waisting his time and ability in u17. I believe he is wanting to play both grades, but what may he miss out on if our u17 don't become competitive top two side in colts. That not saying A grade will go all the way, but to play A grade finals is what its all about.

im not sure on how bostons u 17's are travelling, but are they a shot to make the finals? realistically if the u 17's are a chance to make the finals you would always field your best u 17 team as the a grade dont have to much hope of making the finals this year?

Tips bostons need to recruit senior players, so they need to show the improvement in the higher grade.
