Talk on the national game

I was impressed with the run from their young Blokes, they ran hard through the lines, and their chasing and harrassing was first class

CONGRATULATIONS LIONS

Must admire the LIONS for the way they are rebuilding.

There are middle of the road sides that stay there or improve.

Its all about playing NICE attractive ENJOYABLE football.

HW-KA-RI play UGLY footy and WILL stay middle of the road.
After a while the players are likely to stop enjoying that crapp style.

PP-ES-BL play NICE footy and are likely to surge again.

SS are an exception to the rule.

Special thanks win draw or lose to Matthews,Williams and Sheedy
for being great ambassadors to footy and keep playing NICE footy.

Its no coincidence that the Lions turned it around when they started playing players like Jason Roe, Joel Patfull, etc.
Fortunately for Roey but unfortunately for North I doubt we'll ever see him playing in the red and white again,he's fitted in beautifully up there and has definately added something to the team since entering the side.

It's good to see Patfull get senior games, but he needs to work on his kicking if he's to stay.
Also a bit unfortunate to be penalised for a push in going for a speccie today, as others have been doing the same and getting away with it.

Love the way the Lions have played and are playing now...they have still got a great goal to goal line and midfielders topped up with some great youngsters (whoever their recruiting manager is a genius considering the lack of draft picks they have had over the past 6 years)

They could scare a few teams this year

Based on what I saw yesterday, I think they will only get better. They have quite a few up and coming young players. If they can avoid a lot of injuries they are still a chnace for the finals.
We used to be good :-(

The lions play the Pies at the MCG this week, it will be a match for the big forwards, Brown and Bradshaw v Tarrant and Rocca

the way both side are running and attacking, it should be a real cracker

I am so very pleased to see our Roey doing well for Brisbane. And each week, he cements his place in that side. Couldn't be happier for him. Good on you Roey!!

Brisbane kicked 4 goals in 51 seconds of actual play half way through the last quarter yesterday. Would have to be some sort of record, Spelly?

Shows that teams still have a mathematical chance of winning when they are down by 23 points with a minute to play

From what I've seen of Roe in a couple of games (and going by the commentators on the radio yesterday) he really is provided additional quality to a team that was clearly out of sorts for the first however many weeks .. A team with a nucleus the likes of Brown, Black and Bradshaw plus a healthy number of promising young kids (aswell as quality aging types) should always at the very least, be competitive ... Showed similar patches of form (both good and bad) last season, suggesting perhaps the talent is there but the fluctuating nature of morale can propel or reduce any outfit ..

The only thing something similar I've seen is four behinds to the Eagles against Glenelg in Round 2 at the start of the last quarter last year in about two minutes running time. Do you remember this?

Pity they couldn't go on with that form, the Lions.

Looks like Tarrant will be missing due to suspension.

Been reading some of the posts on the roost as well about Roe and anyone who has a good memory will know I was always a big wrap for him although you didn't have to be a nuclear physicist to see that the bloke had football ability. Shame on the Power if they did promise him they would draft him. The Power and to a lesser extent the Crows, really dropped the ball on this one given that he was playing right under their noses.
As has been said, Matthews must rate Roe very highly already. After putting him on Hall on debut and giving him most of the kick-in duties, he was switched on to a rampant Nathan Buckley last night and while Buckley may have had the better of the duel, Roe will be better for these experiences.

When Buckley is on song he is very tough to stop. Most Seasoned AFL players would have trouble with him.
