I would like to see the Doggies in the old '70s guernsey (blue with red and white vee), especially with so many kids in the team today whose old man played in that jumper, ie; Cochrane's, Thomas, Wilson, Norsworthy to name a few. Just don't suggest that they wear the white one though.

I'm probably not telling you anything you didn't already know, but that jumper was first worn in 1968. From 1964-67, Central wore a Footscray style jumper, similar to what they are wearing now. I agree with you though, I think the one you are describing is the one I think of when I think of Central jumpers.

Yeah, I liked that Centrals guernsey design too. Best one they ever had I reckon.

FWIW I would have no problem if Glenelg wore their "heritage" guernsey of Gold with a black 'V" as an away guernsey when they played Norwood, South and Westies.

Don't know how it would look with white shorts though......Might have to reserect the old yellow shorts, hmm, maybe not!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

PhilH wrote:My understanding as the club explained it to me

Home match at Thebarton - June 17th v Glenelg
- Will wear West Torrens Guernsey from last 1950's
- the one with the old swooping Eagles on it

Last Home Match @ Woodville in 2006 - Sept 3 v Port
- Will wear Woodville Guernsey from first league game in 1964
- It was a similar design to the Warriors jumper without the logo ie green yoke, rest in yellow.

Great initiative by the club

Agreed philH execpt I've heard the Woodville jumper will be worn against North @ Woodville - Round 19 August 12th

giffo giffo giffo. What you talking about mate. The old Centrals jumper in white aka 1980's was my personal favourite.

the dogs jumper of the 80's was a shocker, I'm sure a prodominant white jumper made the players feel like umpires, for a while their we played like umpires

Agreed the Dogs white tops were shockers, as were the state guernsey used around the same time.
Centrals best effort was the first one and it looked great when they wores it last year or the year before at a home game, its only slightly different to the one they wear now but looked more like a real guernsey and less like a Crows rip off.

I thought that top looked pretty good when the bays used it in the 2004 Heritage game at Prospect.
Centrals blue with the Red & White V is definately the best looking guernsey they have played in.

Wests Tigers might give you some sort of idea - gold jerseys, white shorts, black socks.

Looks quite striking.

However, Wests 'gold' seems to have a bit more of an orange hue about it.

Don't understand the problem with white guernseys?

Seems to only worry Aussie Rules supporters.

I actually liked the 80's Dogs jumper. Maybe it's because I grew up with it?

It didn't say but I assume it will be the guernseys worn by the respective clubs just before they merged.

Im just glad we're playing Woodville and not Torrens!

Spewin' that it's not the Blues having a crack at the Peckers, we need a percentage booster.

Surely it was no coincidence that the white Centrals guernsey looked remarkably like a soccer guernsey.

It was ripped off from the guernsey that the allied POWs used in their match in the movie "Escape to Victory". In fact apart from the Bulldogs roundel and SANFL logo it's identical.
