think thats is due to the time and prime time events stil being on until midnight and think thy may have been asking a bit to much money. Will be a big lose for channel 7's coverage.

Re: Coverage of the Games

The TV coverage for the Beijing Olympics is set to be one of the most extensive in history, and thanks to the similar time zone, all major events will be shown live in Australia.

With under a month to go before the Olympics start, official broadcaster the Seven Network and partner SBS are busy finalising their Olympics TV schedules.

Seven says its coverage will be the biggest undertaking by an Australian network since the Sydney Olympics.

In total, between the two stations - there will be more than 600 hours of coverage across the 17-day event.

Seven will broadcast more than 400 hours, while the rest will be shown on SBS.

As the official broadcaster, Seven will show all the main sports and events such as the opening and closing ceremonies, and major sports such as athletics and swimming.

"We're focusing very much on the competition at the Games, taking in as many events as we can, focusing on the world's greatest athletes," Seven's corporate spokesman Simon Francis told AAP.

Seven has given SBS the off shoots - including handball, volleyball, hockey, water polo, football, boxing, basketball, cycling, softball, badminton, table tennis and taekwondo.

With Beijing just two hours behind Australian Eastern Standard Time, local TV viewers are set to benefit, with all major events to be shown live.

Francis says Seven's coverage will be similar to that of the Sydney Olympics, due to the time similarity.

"Events will be unfolding on television during our time not overnight," Francis said.

"It will be like the Games in Sydney."

While Seven would not provide exact figures, there is expected to be only a few hours a day that will be delayed on both SBS and Seven.

"As many as 20 different events may be occurring at the one time," Francis said.

"We will be live for major events and as much as possible on everything that happens."

SBS says it will have a couple of hours a day delayed coverage, on top of 165 hours live across the Games.

Seven is using its Athens commentary team - Johanna Griggs, Matthew White and Sandy Roberts, while it's done away with Roy and HG's The Dream, and replaced it with a morning show called Yum Cha, hosted by Andrew Daddo and Kylie Gillies.

Seven's Olympics coverage will run until 2am, with the only other programs on during the Games will be Sunrise, half-hour of children's programming, the news, Today Tonight and AFL coverage on the weekends.

And, like the Sydney Olympics, Seven is banking on getting big TV audiences.

Francis says the network expects TV ratings to be the equivalent of 2-3 State of Origins or AFL grand finals every day, for the 17-days, which equals about four to five million people.

Hope no one was planning on seeing the Aussie early on Opening Ceremony night.

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) head John Coates has confirmed the team will be the 203rd nation to enter the Beijing Olympic stadium - before Zambia and host nation China.

Mr Coates says it is because Games organisers are using the Chinese alphabet to order the teams.

Channel 7 has 2 or 3 extra HD channels. It would be good if they showed (for example) swimming on main, but other sports on their other channels. Their HD channels almost always simply broadcast whatever is on the main channel 7. But you'd reckon that if they were EVER going to use them, the olympics would be the time. So, anyone know if they are going to use them to actually show not-on-the-main-channel sports?
